Bus Priority Examples: Manchester Automatic Traffic Bollards

This is rather amusing but its a great example of ensuring bus priority - and though this stuff can be used on segregated bus lanes in Delhi and Pune, they may be best considered for implementing peripheral bus lanes with success.

Jaime Lerner's Presentation at TED Talk (BRTS, design and city planning)

I stumbled on this nice TED talk by Jaime Larner. Jaime Larner is an architect and urban planner. He is well know for the BRT systems that he introduced in Curitiba (an industrial hub in South Brazil)as a mayor of that city. He is also know for converting the gridlocked commercial artery city into a spacious pedestrian mall(!!!).

BIAL-RTI Progress Update

Prajagale,

Before we are overtaken by great things that are happening on Praja front, it is time to share some progress update on BIAL-RTI efforts. Here is a summary of the progress so far:

Police Accountability Authority

The constitution of a Police Accountability Authority to take care of the acts of omission and commission by the police personnel and the setting up of a State Police Board to cater to a strategic policing plan, figure prominently in the draft New Karnataka Police Act.

Commuter Rail - Will it really help ?

As most of us are aware, the track record of suburban railways in the larger Indian cities has been pathetic. Other than Mumbai, there is'nt a single example where such a service has successfully attracted commuters & helped reduce road congestion. Most of them have been total failures.

HAL with higher landing charges/airport taxes than BIAL ??

I am not aware of the landing charges / taxes etc that was levied in HAL and now in BIAL. HAL is closer to most parts of the city. People want the HAL reopened (atleast for short haul flights). As much as I want Bangaloreans to have a fair 'choice' between airports, I also want BIAL to become the main airport.

Traffic finally flows across CBI Jn Magic Box

Finally The CBI Jn seems to be open to public, Not sure if some lessons have been learnt... There is no tar on the road still! Its got this "super rubble" finish that tests out vehicle road fitness!!!
