How Wide is Wide?

Infrastructure

Nomatter however the road is wide, there is always traffic jams. Still BBMP seems to have not analyzed the problem and expanding the roads by cutting trees and reducing pavements has become its endless project. Today morning I saw trees on the Maharani's College Road while getting down the Anand Rao circle which were 'alive' from 100s of years being cut to widen further. Already the road is 1 way and it is a 4 lane road. Why to loose our greenery unnecessarily. Also the pavements were narrowed still further. We all know, how matter the road is wide, still traffic will not reduce. Length of the jam decreases and width increases. We have seen the examples of Bangkok, as well as we have seen the roads of California. Its all so wide still there are lots of delays in traffic. Why to loose our precious trees which are seniors in terms of age for a foolish act of road widening which we all know is not going to give us any solution. Loosing the tree for a Metro Rail / Mono Rail is OK since it is minimal as well as it is definitely give us a solution. Still, alternative routes should be taken wherever possible to avoid tree cutting such as the case in Nanda Road.

gas cylinder safety

last month I received a cylinder which looked okay in all respects. After closing down for the day, and opening in the morning, I noticed the smell of leakage. Closer to the cylinder, a low hiss. I rechecked the connection and it was alright. The next morning the story repeated. I asked for a mechanic.

Commuter RailPublic Transport

I was at a BCIC meeting this week wherein Devesh had invited Mr Arvind Jadhav (GoK's principal secretary for infrastructure development) over for a talk. Mr Jadhav mentioned some exciting plans, we should hear them soon in mainstream media. Commuter Rail Service was one of them, looks like things are moving, and we may get one or two services pretty soon! Here is a summary of CRS stuff that Mr Jadhav mentioned:

Presentations linked here were made by Mr Dasrathi (CEO of Cadem, Bangalore, and a member of Hasiru Usiru), who, even with being in his mid-forties, uses a bicycle for over 75% of the trips he makes, including client visits. He has stated that anyone may use these presentations in any way - view online, download, distribute, put them in blogs, whatever, as long as the message spreads.

Expert panel on Delhi BRT

Refer "Experts for BRTS". It may seem strange coming from me (support for continuing)  but - here we have a classic situatoin where basics were never looked at, some sort of bus way created and everyone expected a miracle.

Bangalore parking centres

Parking is been one of the major issue to be taken into consideration when we think about our growth of the city. Every area/Zone should have a parking buildings/ parking lands rather than allowing to park along the roads and complaining that road width is not enough. We should prohibit parking along the roads especially in major traffic zones.
