Sewerage system for suburban areas

Don't see any mention in mainstream papers yet, but last week I noted four big BWSSB tenders (see below) for work to provide sewerage system for suburban areas (CMCs) of Byatarayanpura, Dasarahalli and Mahadevpura. Its about Rs 180 crore worth of work, and I really wish some of us took the same interest we do in detailing Rs 20-30 crore worth flyover projects. What exactly is BWSSB doing here, who are the consultants, who is reviewing their plans and appreciating/criticizing their good/bad work?

Bus Routes and Fares

BusPublic Transport

I've recently started using the bus - I must admit it took my car being in the shop for a few days to trigger it - and have found it to be very easy and comfortable. But I'm curious about the fare system. The first couple of times I found a `Suvarna' bus and the fare, from Mathikere to Yelahanka, was Rs. 11. The bus was virtually empty, comfortable and smooth.

Face up to the goons!

This shocking, yet at some level encouraging, tale is reported by a friend who knows Sugata Chatterjee the rapporteur of this shocker...Boohoo to ramsene and ... their ilk. Down with obscuranist politicians and moral police, 3 cheers to sugata Chatterjee for standing up.

Some practical suggestions for Traffic/Pollution

One of the most significant and visible problems that Bangalore currently faces is traffic and the related congestion, noise and air pollution. On our Bangalore roads, we routinely see many accidents, fights, noise from engine and honking, pollution from smoke spewing vehicles, damage to health, complaints and frustration.

Posting on behalf of R K Mishra

Dear Friends,

A railway porter and TC taught me a lesson: Only RTI, No “Agar-Magar”, No Ifs & Buts

A profound account shared by RTI activist Krishnaraj Rao, Mumbai

Some weeks ago, I had an argument about the RTI Act with a railway hamaal… and I lost the argument.

Lakes in Bangalore

Over the last 4 years I have been reading about articles in the news papers about the diminishing lakes in Blore. Once the city was proud to have hundreds of lakes, now has only 60+ lakes. I don't have exact statistics but what I know is Lake development Autority was once formed and they are doing the maintaining or for privatization of lakes.
