Well done, Mr Commissioner

ASI Nagarajappa and constables Venkatesh, Veerabhadraiah and Nagappa attached to Sanjaynagar police station were suspended, pending a departmental inquiry. On August 2, they barged into an apartment where a birthday party was being celebrated and illegally detained some persons and demanded money for their release.

Arrogance personified

In a crude show of political might, labour minister B N Bacche Gowda and his gunman physically assaulted a family which dared to overtake the minister’s vehicle. When Bharat (the driver of the vehicle) questioned if he had committed any crime by overtaking the minister’s vehicle, Gowda allegedly stepped out of his car and physically assaulted Bharat.

Fate of RTI activists

Governance

Its not long ago we heard about murder of RTI activist in Maharashtra, now its turn of Gujarat.

Consumer Court experience

Governance

Given the choice, very few amongst the middle and upper classes in the country will ever want to have anything to do with the government or its agencies, plainly because they lack the basic 'technology' of handling them.

Accountability of our emergency helplines

Governance

Here's my experience with the Police emergency phone number, 100, that makes me pray that nobody ever has any emergency.

Last Saturday, I was returning by train from Thanjavur. While the train was waiting for a clearance to enter the railway station, I heard some commotion outside. Two guys, at least one of them very drunk, were fighting. The inebriated one was lying on the tracks (and hardly moving) and the other man was beating him up. This was at 4 AM and it was still pretty dark. Sensing danger to their lives if a train happened to approach on that track the passengers from my coach urged them to move away from the rails. Since they didn't pay heed, I decided to call the police helpline 100.

My first reaction when the lady answered the phone was surprise at the complete lack of urgency in her tone and voice. I explained the situation to her, and she asked me to call the railway police. There was no answer from that number so I dialed 100 again and got to speak to the same lady. This time she asked me to call the general railway helpline 197!

Is it case of less of enforcement and more of corruption?

Bangalore Master Plan 2015 - Where is this headed?

I have read the Bangalore Master Plan 2015 for the first time.

I am happy to see the recommendations made after a structured study. ( Though I would have expected this to have more meat)

Why I will not vote for JD(S) in this election, or ever.

Governance

With state JD(S) chief H D Kumaraswamy on Monday brazenly saying that he saw nothing wrong in fielding criminals if they looked like winnable candidates, the comfort that Bangaloreans enjoyed, compared to those living in the cow belt, has evaporated. In an exclusive interaction with TOI ahead of BBMP polls, Kumaraswamy said that his criteria for giving tickets to criminals is simple: he/she should have the support of party workers and people of the area and should be able to win. Obviously a case of political arithmetic trumping morals and scruples. But, is it right to bring criminals into politics? “What’s wrong? It’s a chance for them to reform. If they change, isn’t it an achievement and better for the society?”

Ordeal ... I went through

Governance

Today evening while returning from Marathalli,  while I was driving along with my friend, a guy on Yamaha takes a left cut in front of me. It was such an extreme cut, I somehow saved the guy and in return screamed and asked to drive properly. The guy and pillion riders stare at me, but I continued on my way.

After a while, they overtake me and ask to stop. I stopped and they started screaming. I started explaining that what he had done was wrong. In no mood to listen, they both start landing blows on me. And they thunder," you come to our area and scream at us, how dare you?". They beat me black and blue and you know what all the people in crowd around were saying, "Yeh , they speak hindi. They cant scream at them. and all started murmuring against us"

Seeing the crowd support for them, I continually said "Sorry" while both were landing blows on me and my friend as well. No one from the crowd even mediated. Some how when they saw blood on my face, they left after hitting me badly in my stomach.

Compound wall crack due to neighbour' s borewell digging - issued resolved

Governance

Crack in the compound wall issue seems to be resolved, temporarily.

Other RTI + Lok Ayuktha files, will have be be followed up in due course.

Another huge grey area seems to be that very few citizens are aware of permissions that are / are not needed before a borewell can be sunk. The 'consultant's digging the borewell of course make all the rules up...!
