I was pretty surprised not to see a single post on the great Jayanagar Shopping Complex Fire that swept through late friday night on Praja. No Jayanagarites here :-)?

Harnessing the Desert Sun

A tiny fraction of the sun's energy that shines upon the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East could meet all of Europe 's electricity demands. The technology to harness the energy already exists.

Likewise, entire Karnataka's energy needs can be met by a similar plant at Gulbarga or Raichur, or one in Rajasthan through a consortium involving other states.

The World Customers' Day was observed by BESCOM in its usual ritualistic style on Saturday, the 15th March by holding a workshop on 'Customer Care', in association with Public Affairs Centre (PAC), Swabhimana, Consumer Advocacy, and Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC). Of the audience of a 100 odd people, only some 30 were members of Civil Society groups (RWA's, etc), the rest comprising mostly of BESCOM officials. Seeing this, the chief guest, Dr Samuel Paul, Chairman, PAC, remarked that the poor turn out was perhaps an indication of the high level of satisfaction with BESCOM services.

Privatization - Can It improve Transport /Power /Water Supply ?

Should BMTC, BWSSB & KPTC be privatizied ? Will such a move improve services & benefit citizens in the years ahead ? When will it be a good time to think of privatizing these entities ? Are we happy with their services as they are ? If not, are there ways to improve them without privatization ? Are there successful examples of such privatization ?
