Healthy Bangaloreans might go extinct by 2020

MYSORE: Bangalore will not have any healthy people left in 15 years if the government fails to arrest soaring pollution levels in both urban and rural levels. This grim warning came from Vision Group 2020, a panel comprising of eminent personalities from the state, constituted for making Karnataka a developed state.

Accident nation

There was a report in today's TOI on accidents in India. 125,000 people lost their lives in India in road accidents. India tops the list in road deaths in the world. China has managed to bring DOWN road deaths from 2005 to 2006. In India this has gone up from about 106,000 to 125,000 from 2006 to 2007.

My experience with the subregistrar - lessons and tips

Our ancestral property in Malleswaram was to be split between our family. For this we had to approach the sub-registrar in Malleswaram.

The clerk at the office demanded "Rs 1 lakh" to do the job. My father is not well versed with using google well.

Meeting with Lokayukta Justice Hegde

Justice Hegde 1Some of us went and met Lokayukta Justice Hegde today. A long, and very interesting meeting, I am not sure how much of what we heard we will manage to post here. Its one thing to hear stories of corruption (loose talk like X eats money, Y drinks duddu) at parties, and simply another to hear those from people (we heard from Up-Lokayukta and their PR Officer Mr Riaz as well) who deal with such cases and people on daily basis.

Belgaum Air travelers face more tribulations

After the closure of the AirDeccan Belgaum Mumbai Flight now the Kingfisher (earlier Air Deccan) Belgaum Bangalore flight, which was on a daily basis, will now fly on all days except Tuesdays.

Bangalore has higest court cases filed and pending !

We all know about the state of judiciary and its access to our vulnerable sections. In hindsight we all agree that Indian judicial system needs radical reforms in terms delivering the justice in reasonable time period. This is not to put down our judicial system but we all need to be aware of the potential shortcoming the judicial delivery system has.

BIAL Capacity Assesment Report from AAI!

Praja members,

Another RTI response to share with. A Praja member had filed an RTI application with Ministry of Civil Aviation for obtaining a copy of the Capacity assessment of Bangalore's new International airport(BIAL). The capacity assessment was done by AAI from June 16-18, 2008.

We want infrastructure but no taxes!

We the proud citizens of Namma Bengaluru, arguably having a higher Household Income on an average compared to the rest of India cry a lot for infrastructure.

Yet, we do not want to pay property taxes and to add insult to the injury want to pay abysmally low taxes. If we do not pay adequate property taxes, we cannot even have good infrastructure.

Entropy example: Kilometer long jam for no real reason

Marathahalli JamOne Wednesday afternoon, I noticed a kilometer long jam around a tiny intersection on Varthur Road at Marathahalli. The photo doesn't tell you much, but watch the video (below) and guess the reason for the chaos I captured:

Monthly Praja meetings at Bangalore?

A lot of activity goes on behind the scenes here that doesn't show in blogs and forums. Not that members want to keep things private, but things tend to start via emails or conversations between island groups of members, and there is just no time to post everything in detail.

How to make citizens follow rules.

On Several threads i have been noticing each time there has been a reference of law enforcement or regulation some one or the other comes around and tells us stories about how regulation and laws are not going to work. (sigh!)
Look here, we are a part of the same system that you are complaining about.

Taking Rain Water Harvesting more seriously

It is good that the BWSSB has finally realised that only about 50% of it's current water supply is metered and billed for. It is equally good to note that it has come down heavily on IBC Knowledge Park (the building hosting Accenture et al) on Bannerghatta Road for water theft.

Albert Brunner to step down as CEO of BIAL

Cross posted from my blog

After 7 years, Mr. Albert Brunner will not be extending his contract with Bengaluru International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) which comes to an end in early 2009, and will step down as Chief Executive Officer.

Profit for KSRTC at whose cost?

The primary objective of public transport corporations is to serve the public. However, this does not seem to hold good on many occasions, like on Monday, when BMTC and KSRTC gave a large number of buses in their fleet on casual contract for the JD(S) convention, causing an acute shortage of buses on road and putting the public to hardships.

24x7 Power Supply; courtesy - Solar Lighting

While the rest of the state is fretting over frequent power cuts, three little-known hamlets of Uttara Kannada district have uninterrupted power supply, thanks to Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank’s Vikasa Kirana scheme, launched in 1994, to avail of solar lighting units to enjoy uninterrupted power supply, a rarity in Karnataka these days.
