The Future - Grim Realities

An interesting presentation that I came across about the grim future :

Bus service Improvements around KR Circle areas

The widening of Seshadri rd, Race Course rd & Palace rd together with the flyover at Anand Rao circle, the already wide District office rd & underpasses at KR circle & Maharani's college has one benefit - possibility for improvement of bus services for savings in bus travel times for commuters.

Accident rate down..

Saw this in today's (13th Apr) TOI...

Parking vs pedestrians - What about Brigade Road?

I believe a similar survey (like Commercial St.)should be done on Brigade Road - at the very least they should ban parking on Brigade Road betweem MG and Residency Roads. Instead the govt seems to be planning on wasting money on yet another pointless plan

Innovative solutions for cleaner / Greener Bangalore

I attended the CISTUP seminar lecture by Vivek Menon on 8th April 2009 at IISC. It was attended by several companies and BCCF members as well. Vivek Menon is a first Runner up Lead India contest of TOI.

"Big10/Volvo to office" day for Whitefield - come join!

It grew out of an idea from Pradip, a public transport enthusiast. He suggested that we stand at Kundalahalli junction one weekday morning and hand out roses and BMTC route maps to all the car commuters. The thought has grown into a  "Big10/Volvo to work day" for Whitefield.

Streets for Mysore

Reproducing some of the works Vadi and I had put together couple of years ago.  So simple and inexpensive, sustainable and looks neat.  MCC spends so much money but what we get to see is sad.

Pedestrian Subway - Change In Design

In the recent past, many pedestrian underpasses have been built at various locations. However, the utility of these for pedestrian crossings has been minimal & one hardly finds pedestrians using them, unless forced to with barricades (eg. Pedestrian subway at City Railway Station, & at KBS).

Urban minimum wage as election promise?

Cities are not just about rich or middle classes. It is estimated that majority of residents (> 60%) in our cities belong in poor or lower middle income groups. I was wondering if Lok Sabha 2009 has seen any promises that would influence the votes of this sizeable group?

'Upper Houses' for cities

Mr Manivannan, IAS, Dy Commissioner, Mysore, made the following remarks in his recent posting on PRAJA (http://praja.in/en/blog/m...), leading to the interesting comments listed further below.

sustainable transport plan

i have been reading up all the to and fros on the BMTC discussion, and i am just wondering, considering the involvement
and interest of the praja members, if we shd take a step back, and discuss a long term
framework that is fundamantally about a sustainable transport solution/s for bangalore.
that would include walking, cycling, pooling.

Should Commercial St. be Pedestrianized ?

Found a nice article on citizenmatters talking about a pedestrian survey on commercial street.

The results of the survey are remarkable
