Already embroiled in litigation over key issues involved in the implementation of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor, its promoter, NICE on Wednesday delivered a shocker to motorists. The toll will be the highest in the country and will be in force until December 31 when it can exercise the option of revising it, at an annual rate of 10 per cent increase.

Toll rates need rounding off
Murali sir,
a. They are in it to make money. Easier to start with a higher number, judge usage and cut if they think it is too high. If you start too low, you might not be able to effect an increase later.
b. We have other options to go to NH4 from South Bangalore. I will probabyl pay Rs.100 from E-City to Peenya at Rs.2.80/km - but will save probably 1 hr at least if not 2. If I think my time is worth more than Rs.50/hr I will take it. I will also save 1 liter of fuel - Rs.50 savings there. If my tradeoff does not make sense to me I will choose to go to SilkBoard, Ring Road, etc etc. And suffer and curse.
c. Their toll fees need to be rounded up and rounded down to the nearest 10 so that change and coinage issues don't arise. Rs.21 toll - invariably someone will pass on Rs.50/100 note. Waste of time and traffic build up while change is issued, etc
d. How can they charge money to go from E-City to Bg Road and BgRoad to Kkp Road - the bloody road is not even done with all that Gottigere mess. I am okay that they start charging at Kanakapura Road towards Mysore Road. Who cares what I think?

Regulation of public utilities essential
Public Transit operated by NICE / BMTC itself needed
NICE itself can start bus service which will prevent congestion as well as improve safety, also economical to citizens. BMTC volvo services can also be started say from Peenya to EC also from Vijaynagar to EC via NICE link Road with bit extra fare. For eg: if it is 30 Rupees from EC to Vijaynagar on the regular route (currently V600K operates on this route), let them charge 40 rupees if it is via NICE road.
Commuters travelling to EC consuming 2 hrs will definitely use this service. It will increase the frequency of buses since the turnaround time will be less, fuel efficiency will be more since it is a freeway route.
2 Wheeler fares are OK, but safety is the problem. If there is a segregated lane for 2 wheelers to avoid the impact of 4 wheelers, if the weather permits, definitely people will use.
another toll hike..what does Gazette say?
As of January 1, Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) Ltd. the implementing agency of the project has effected a hike of as much as 20 per cent for vehicles using the road.
With the hike, the fare for a light motor vehicle (LMV) on the road would be increased to Rs. 3.42 a km, which is more than five times the Rs. 0.65 charged by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
