Pedestrian Ramp Standards

This is mostly a collection of external resources and best practices. Please feel free to add to the knowledge base.

The following links are examples of standards for designing disabled and stroller friendly pavement ramps.

BIAL RTI Project

Late in 2008, several Praja members got together to file a series of RTI (Right to Information) applications to get information about Bangalore International Airport project executed by BIAL. The objectives were to find out how some decisions about the airport were made, when they were made, and the changes seen by concession agreement or land use plans.

ABIDe: Transportation plan

ABIDeIts out now... ABIDe plans on their site bengaluruvedike.org. Let me know what you all think. I found Bus prioritized higher than other options. Including suggestions of doubling the bus numbers without any mention of route optimization or rail based transportation systems.

A solution for eastbound OMR/ORR lanes

The mess at Bennigannahalli is a 2 km microcosm of what haphazard (if any) planning can result in- apathy (and sometimes antipathy) to public transportation, lane indiscipline, poor forethought (narrow RUB; non-existent pedestrian infrastructure) and bad design (Cable-stayed bridge) to name a few. However IMO some solutions are not that far away.

Open Space Bonus for Bengaluru City

Open Space BonusWhen there is little "free" land available in Bangalore urban and peripheral areas, how do you encourage creation of public space? Large parks and lung spaces is one thing, 'small' public spaces another. Think a little extra width for pedestrians. Think extra bus bays on private spaces. May be some lawn space and plazas along the high density roads to reduce the action on the shores of the "corridors".

Belgaum is peaceful: but not Belgaum issue

From the 16th January the Belgaum issue has taken a rebirth, till then it would just erupt on a couple of days in a year and all would be good and calm later on.

Bengaluru Light Rail

A tram-train is a light-rail public transport system where trams also run on main-line train tracks for greater flexibility and convenience. Most tram-trains are standard gauge, which facilitates sharing track with standard gauge mainline trains. Tram-trains have dual equipment to suit the respective needs of tram and train, such as support for multiple voltages and safety equipment such as train stops.

World Bank/ GBWASP - a different conspiracy

There's always been a debate over whether the politician is the bigger problem, or the bureaucrat. I have always held that even bigger than the two, there's another formidable force - the Socialist (the psuedo variety - there are very few genuine ones remaining). And, the solutions to the countries problems lies in tackling him.
