Yeshwantpur Railway Station
I am happy to see this segment.
There is enough land next to Yeshwantpur railway station, towards Lottegollahalli, which as I have noticed, is vacant. Can somebody tell me whether this is owned by the railways or someone else? If at all it is owned by the railways, then would it not be a good idea to plan the expansion of Yeshwantpur station, or build a brand new terminus there, allowing the existing station to be a stop over station for commuter rail and the long distance trains on the Bangalore - Tumkur and Bangalore - Hassan (in future) segments??
This however, does not mean that the work on a third terminus at Byappanahalli must be stopped. Bangalore has grown so intensely that it requires multiple terminals; the scope for expanding the existing ones must be explored along with constructing new ones...
Tejaswi
Other routes within Bangalore for commuter rail
Guys, I am as much an enthusiast of commuter rail in Bangalore as many of you here. Hence I intend to share a few thoughts of mine on commuter rail in this segment, which I feel has been specifically dedicated to it.
Doddaballapur - Devanahalli - Whitefield new railway line is desirable as Doddaballapur is now turning out to be the new happening residential locality of Bangalore. ITIR and Hardware park once operational would increase the number of people to and from Devanahalli, while one hardly needs to say anything about Whitefield. Hence a commuter rail network along this route would be most needed in future.
Yelahanka / Rajanukunte - Nelamangala railway line is also desirable as there have been talks of converting it into a terminus in the RITES report. Once this line is laid, besides serving commuter rail, it would also help the long distance trains from Hubli, Shimoga, Mangalore, Hassan etc. to be terminated at Yelahanka.
Bidadi - Harohalli - Bannerghatta - Anekal town - Attibele - Sarjapur - Varthur - Whitefield new railway line would enable commuter rail, as also enable trains from Mysore towards Chennai, Salem, Tirupati etc. to avoid the ever-busy Bangalore city station, thereby creating more space for suburban trains besides enabling more long distance trains to be started from the city station.
Tejaswi
@Tejeswi, New Railway Lines!
Tejaswi,
The new railway lines that you mentioned in your comments are needed in long term if not today. If you read RITES 2012 report, you will find the recommendation for building a circular rail network around the periphery of Bangalore. The routes more or less connect these places
We have a big problem on our hand. GOK, state politicians have not put together a list of railway infrastructure that is needed in Bangalore and other parts of the state. In fact if you go through the Loksabha Questions, you would hardly find any demands from new line, additional infrastructure. It seems they are least interested in getting railway projects for state. Come Feb/March, they are ready for making noises as they do every year saying railways in discriminating the state. In last 5 years, only about 25 questions have been asked by state MPs to the Railway Ministry. In that City MPs draws blank. One can imagine why railways is absent in our state.
It is time we knock on our political representatives and hand them a wish list. We alone are to be blamed for state of railways in our state. Can't expect others to do our work.
In a nutshell, we the people of this state, our MPs/MLAs, our government has not demanded enough railway projects that we need. Therefore the blame squarely lie with us.
