No metro rail in the poll has been considered since the 1st half of the orr is being covered by monorail and second half should be either mono or the currently planned BRTS. Inside KL Monorail: Inside Seattle Monorail: KL Monorail's Foot Print

monorail - for continuity

I am thinking monorail for continuity - just go all around ORR. Twin tracks, two closed loops. But I know BRTS is cheaper, though it has bigger footprint on ground - would have to let go of two lanes (out of six) on ORR. I think they picked mono for the west loop because ORR is narrow at many locations with no scope for service roads on either side. The east loop, by contrast, has six main lanes and two service roads almost all throughout.

vasanth it is difficult to answer this question in terms of modes. instead we need to think in terms of traffic patterns on this road. how many BMTC buses travel on this road? from where are they coming and where are they going to? how many people use these buses. how many private vehicles travel on this road? from where are they coming and where are they going to? can mono replace buses? with all the growth on eastern half of ORR and with coming development of new BDA layouts along the western loop, should there really be a metro? vasanth, how many people does BMTC transport every day? any ideas? i was looking at some data, tokyo transports about 8 million riders/day mind blowing number. more than the population of bangalore.

what if they do this section as a PPP project and let the private investor propose the type of technology to use? what type of technology will they choose? will they ask for additional routes to the corridor to improve ridership? will they start lobbying the government to rationalize petrol prices? it will be interesting to game this out.

PPP Projects to have or not to have

It is difficult to decide shoot we go with PPP model for projects or should Government should operate. PPP model may be faster in implementation since they want quick outcome, provided our Babus say 'Asthu'. Otherwise, PPP operations in India becomes like a drum on the road as we saw in BMIC and may remain a project on papers. It would be great and smooth if Government implements the project with an efficient officer incharge of mega projects. Sreedharan of Delhi Metro is an example. Public support to these officers and non-interference of Babus should be ensured.

Buses still needed as feeder for Mono.

Donot have an idea about how much million BMTC transport every day. Mono cannot replace buses completely. Buses should act as feeder from ring road to inner areas. Most of the people travelling in ORR are travelling towards ITPL from Hosur Road as well as people from Western part of Bangalore are travel towards ITPL. On weekends, people travel to Marathalli factory outlets.
