Multi Modal Integration : Metro, Railways, BMTC & Foot paths

As we have seen Ph-1 of Metro open to public without any consideration  for multimodal integration,  other end slowly suburban rail taking traction,  People are using over crowded Metro with poor integration  to change over from one mode of publci transport system to other.

Even we do not have single mobility card for Bangalore urban transport.

Now we are  seeing how mess is Ph-2 of Bangalore metro on  station location and integration.

Even citizens voice not been  given  thought by either BMRCL or GOK  inspite of bringing to every one notice.  FOr whose purpose, these  public transport insfrastructure are bulit without haveing any scant consideration for integration.

Can Citizens of Bangalore who are suppose  better educated, still have to be at mercy of GOK and BMRCL on these  :

Sanjeev, since purple line is integrated at KSR and Byappanahalli, again integrating at KR Puram and Whitefield is not needed as purple line would just become an alternative to Kengeri - Whitefield suburban rail network. This would also might lead to deviating Metro network from main public spaces and offices. One Metro line integrating with IR line at one or two points should be good enough. As  the trains from Whitefield and KR Puram will also stop at Byappanahalli.

Cantonment integration is a must since the Red Line does not integrate with IR anywhere.

We would need Yellow Line integration near Chandapura as this too does not touch any line.

For Mass Public Transport, every location is an opportunity

At Cantonment Raiwlay Station,  Metro will be easily integrated.

At KSR, its not at all integrated.  At Baiyyappanhalli, its done on Kasturinagar side, on OMR its ur own risk to cross  road

At KR Puram, integration with Railways, BMTC, KSRTC and  Silk Board Line. Imagine, people coming by bus from Kolar, how will they access from KR Puram Bridge which they have to walk for 1  kms without proper things.  How will railway passengers will access the Metro of both lines

At Whitefield,  its Suburban Rail and Intercity commuters.  Also residents arround Station who have t ocross tracks and access metro.

Where r the  plans with BMRCL even if its claiming they r planning.

Do they mean after Final Metro construction over, they intended to do ???

We have BMTC Buses, Metro 42 Kms running to some extent suburban rail and low fare taxi ( Ola etc ), so why people do not feel comfortable or do not enjoy traveling in PT on account of many reasons. With Tech city, we should be role model for the country on Public Transport integration, unfortunately every time co-ordination / money take role and spoils

 

Requesting Citizens to take part and give  inputs so that we have good integration of metro with other modes including location of Cantonment metro station

The elected representatives and experts who make it to these round table meetings should value the average commuter's time and not go on speaking and bore the public.

Genuine concerns by BMTC commuters were brushed aside/ swept under the carpet at this meet. I doubt if the so called experts/ politicians ever travel by Metro coaches where ordinary commuters are packed like sardines.

So  discussion was in detailed and almost every one got  opportunity to express there cncerns and  good thing.

It was good opportunity to share the concerns & interact  with MPs Mr PC Mohan, Mr Rajeev Gowda, MLA Ashwath Narayan, BMTC Chairmen Nagraj

It made serious efforts  how much is important  integration of multimodal transport system in Bangalore

Well, Sanjeev I am not referring to presentations made by the organizers or Mr. Verma but bureaucrats like the BMTC Chairman and others never allowed genuine concerns to be addressed.

One more observation, " Why was PC Mohan keeping on harping on Hoodi Railway Station?" Sorry, to say this but some people seem to be on perpetual election mode.

It did not help that a few members of the public were singing praises of PC Mohan and BMTC. In particular, a person who was speaking incoherently about Hoodi Station and its benefit to the IT junta.

I appreciate Mr. Mohan's intent but not his attempts at brand building. 

There is a huge non IT population in Bangalore. Whitefielders never get out of their ivory towers.

There was very little discussion about Namma Railu apart from a mention here and there. 

We give too much of importance to our MPs, experts, RWA leaders and celebrities and fawn over them. I doubt if this crowd ever uses the BMTC/ Metro.

Kindly have a set of queries collected on a piece of paper from commuters/ members so that genuine concerns are addressed. There is always a paucity of time. 

A case in point was the insensitive reply made by one of the bureaucrats who said that people working in Global Village have contract buses to choose. He should see the way the workers from garment industry are packed into autos when the shift at Arvind Mills' units ends at 5:00 PM. This is a kilometre away from Global Village. 

Nobody spoke about the need for late night transport, ensuring safety for women through public transport, inflated ridership figures of BMTC and Metro. I let it pass as I was sure that these concerns would never be addressed. 

 In fact, I have very little hope for Bangalore.

Ponder about this point if you can

There is a fundamental problem in the ridership data put out by BMTC, Metro and most suburban rail corporations of India. There is no proven way to have a single view of a commuter. The same person might use different modes of transport or use different lines on the same rail/ metro system or different buses on the same transport corporation. To that extent we are overestimating the ridership on any given day. I suppose Metro's numbers are accurate because the token is used to measure the ridership. Yet, it is the same set of people who use Metro to get back to their homes in the evening. 

But what do we do if the same Metro card is used multiple times by the same person/ different persons. 
The ridership numbers are overestimated and to that extent their impact on traffic volumes outside.

This  where we would like to raise voice on having multimodal transport system : BMTC, SUburban Rail, Metro, Pedestrains.

Govt is bent  upon spending everything on one mode of transport. 

If we allow the way things were going, even BMTC would have been shown door by now

I had a word with my employer today about the lack of connectivity. We would approach BMTC in an informal way to get the issue sorted out. 

Bus connectivity to Frazer Town, Benson Town, Cookes Town, Cox Town, Murphy Town, Richards Town has always been bad.

The BMTC still seems to be stuck in the pre independence era and probably believes that White Sahibs still inhabit these areas.

Less said about connectivity after 7:00 PM in the evening. A robust public transport system 24*7 is a must for any metropolis. 

Bombay was considered to be a safe city because of easy availability of trains till 2:00 AM. Women were known to take the last train back home. Unfortunately, today that is not the case in Mumbai as well.

Multi Modal Transport is definitely possible in Bangalore. Kolar DEMU from BNCE to SBC. SBC to Attiguppe by Metro. The DEMU train goes up to Channapatna. Total journey time- 45 minutes. Much more effective than BMTC+ Metro.
Detractors of suburban rail and metro baruthes be damned. This includes the walk from platform 3 at SBC to the Metro station. A direct train from WFD to KGI takes 50 minutes. Much faster to KNDV (40 minutes). No platforms still at KNDV. Shame on Railways, its so called competent ministers and SWR for not providing these basic facilities.
Much faster than the shift from bus to metro and vice versa.
