Currently furious SWD refurbishing activity is going on in HAL III stage area. It consists mainly of providing uniform RCC slab covers at suitable height in relation to that of the road center.

In the process, granite slab covers where ever exiting, are taken out and broken in to manageable pieces to facilitate easy transport to crushing factories.

Invariably we residents have granite slabs covering the SWDs in front of our entry gates. These are being taken out for clearing loads of accumulated mud in the drain. They are then assembled back to the Original condition

The contractor has no specific provision for water. Hence the workers do take water from the residential houses for drinking and mixing cement concrete regularly. There is no concrete curing as such in existence. Few residents like my self do the curing at our site boundary.

Picture 6 – An SWD covered by short RCC slabs.
Notice the RCC slabs are of short width, thus making an extra unwanted step. I called up Mr. Vijay Kumar the husband of the corporater Sumitra Vijay Kumar. He promised to inform the contractor. It was around 8PM when this happened. I was pleasantly surprised to find the correct size slabs arriving early morning!

SWD/Foot paths
Mr. Anantram,
Any idea who designs these foot paths and to what Standards/Norms?

Interesting Picture
The newly laid out SWD covers are the stray dog favourites. The stray dogs are using the covered SWDs as roads. Under a shady tree it is a nice bed for siesta.
Brick laying of Foot paths
To day the foot paths are being laid with cement bricks. The stretch between SWD and the tar road is cleared and dug up to make way for the bricks before laying.
Notic the step at the SWD at far left side. The scooters are seen parked at the road side on the RHS. Lot of muck seen is to be cleared. Laborious work indeed!
Park side of the road
There is a BDA park opposite to my house. Observe the newly covered SWD where the new load of brics are stored
The SWD is covered partially by small size RCC covers. This leaves an unwanted extra step which is hazaedous!
The BBMP engineer does not care to put a mud trap at the rain water entry point, as seen in the picture above. A testimony of the kind of slip shod work.being carried out indeed!
SWD/Footpath
Dear Mr. Anantram,
As I suggested, you should ask the engineer what Norms/Standards are
following and who is designing these constructions.

Meeting the BBMP engineer.
Meeting the elected reps either the Corporater or MLA is not easy but possible. Meeting the enginner is almost impossible.
The corporater promissed to visit our road to day morning. He came in his govt vehicle accompanied by the engineer. I came to know about it when he had already left. When I called him, he requested me to give my cell to the BBMP Mestry. He instructed the mestry to move the Granite slabs to a side street.
The mestry told me that it would cost about Rs 3000/- to take away the two heavey [1ft thick] granite slabs by calling JVC. Hence moving the slabs to side street would be the solution.
Picture of the two slabs
Here is the picture:-
These slabs were brought a couple of yers back for spanning the SWD for a cross road. Hence they were 1 foot thick to take heavy load of trucks. These extra ones were lying at the edge of the park all these years. now they are blocking the road side parking of veicles on the foot path.
