Senior IAS officer M N Vijayakumar has asked the Chief Secretary to immediately remove Mir Anees Ahmed as special deputy commissioner, whom he has charged with corruption. In a letter, copies of which he released to the media on Monday, Vijayakumar has also accused Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee, the state’s topmost bureaucrat, of suppressing from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah information about Ahmed’s alleged involvement in land grab.

On November 13, IAS officers Ahmed and Neela Manjunath were appointed special deputy commissioners to recover encroached government lands in and around Bengaluru. Vijayakumar claimed that he had evidence to prove that Ahmed was involved in promoting land grabbing when he was Registrar, Karnataka Appellate Tribunal. Vijayakumar was a member of KAT from October 2008 to August 2009.

In the letter, Vijayakumar has also attached extracts from his letters and notes to various authorities about Ahmed. “You (Mukherjee) made sure that any land grabbed by the mighty would never be recovered and consequently they would not be punished,” he alleged.

A third contentor, in my opinion, would be IAS officer Rashmi V Mahesh, Director General, Administrative Training Institute (ATI) at Mysore. Appended below are excerpts from New Indian Express report (for the full text, click here), which make her worthy of recognition.

The incidents at the ATI on Wednesday comes close on the heels of the new director general submitting a report to the state government stating that nearly Rs. 60 crores sanctioned for the institute by the Central Government was misappropriated and used against illegally during her predecessor (another IAS officer Amita Prasad)’s tenure. “Rashmi Mahesh who took over the post barely two months ago saw through the financial mismanagement and informed the state government. She has demanded that the state government conduct a CBI inquiry.
