TIO report today says that newer vehicles on road are polluting more than the older vehicles !
"new cars in India are spewing more greenhouse gasses than older models,
pushing up emissions in Delhi alone by 72% in five years (2002-07), the Centre for Science and Environment said on Monday, releasing
its analysis of emissions data accessed from the Automotive Research Association of India."
One reason they mention is that size/power of vehicles in increasing and hence the reduction in mileage..fair enough.
Another personal observation is that this the kind of fuel we use has got to do something with it too! It is said that not all engines are equipped for the 'speed' or the high octane fuel available in the market. I am sure the mechanical engineers amongst us can appreciate this better, but the fact is the tuning of vehicles goes for a toss with mixed usage of this speed/power fuel and ordinaly petrol.
Some petrol bunks in bangalore have this habit of filling up super petrol default, cos its a little expensive and it works with their intrests of making profits..and most of us are not too keen on checking the type of petrol than checking the price ticker..seeing if we are not being short changed..
However this mix match will effect engine firing resulting in low engine efficiency and more pollution. Hence request everyone to keep the engines tuned optimally, not detuned for mileage, by authorized folks and check if their engines can 'really' work with the super/power fuel!
