Meeting with BMLTA 12:30 PM, Sat 6th Sep

Wanted to bring it to notice of all Bangalore members that Ravi_D is working to organize a meeting with BMLTA. He will try get a weekend date. Leave a comment here if you will like to join in. Rithesh and couple others already said so. We are sure more members will be interested.

We can use this post to collect questions as well. However, for this first meeting, let us limit ourselves to understanding what BMLTA can do today, and what (authority) it needs to meaningfully impact transportation scenario in our city.

For the uninitiated, BMLTA stands for Bangalore Metropolitan Land Transportation Authority. It is supposed to be the umbrella body to help civic bodies with stake in transportation coordinate with each other. For more, see their website www.bmlta.org. 1.29 In order to develop an adequate response to the serious transport issues facing the BMR, it is essential that the newly created Bangalore Metropolitan Land Transport Authority (BMLTA) be strengthened by giving it a statutory basis. Further, the BMLTA must operate as a wing of the MPC/BMRDA and be accountable to it. The MPC should review its functioning periodically and endorse the plans prepared for comprehensive infrastructure and integrated urban and peri-urban transport systems. The BMTC’s jurisdiction should be extended to cover the BMR. It is critical for BMLTA to also undertake short term measures that alleviate the serious traffic problems confronting the city today.
