BBMP (and BTP) and inclusive development

One look at the typical projects happening in Bangalore and it is quite clear that for the BBMP the city is a thoroughfare meant to enable cars to zip across the city with minimal inconvenience.  There always seems to be enough funds for flyovers, underpasses, road widening and asphalting.

Save Jaraganahalli Lake

The lake adjoining Puttenahalli and Jaraganahalli is dying slowly. The lake is called Jaraganahalli Lake or Sarakki Lake and it is a huge water body. For past several years, weeds have covered the entire lake and has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Also, local people use it as garbage dump. Many builders are dumping building waste into this lake.

Controversy brewing over commuter rail, Metro to blame?

Time to indulge in some talk on Namma Railu aka Commuter Rail Service (CRS). RITES has submitted a report to DULT last week. Sources claim that Rs 3000-4000 Crore can give Bangalore a 15 minute lead time commuter rail system covering 200 odd kms of distance. We will validate this once the RITES report is made public.

Stink-free Bangalore?

The projects to clean up storm water valleys had been taken up under Environment Action Plan (EAP) Part A in 2004, but it was taken up again in 2010 as there was no progress.
