When MRVC can progress so much why is Bangalore left out on commuter rail
From 2015, 12-car trains to run on harbour line
After three years, it might not be that difficult to board a Panvel train.
The union cabinet and its committees have given the green light to run 12-car trains on the harbour line from CST-Belapur-Panvel and Bandra-Andheri section and alsoinformed the railway ministry about it in early February.
This project, which has a March 2015-deadline, is expected to increase the carrying capacity of the harbour line by nearly 33%.
“This is the fourth project that has been cleared by the ministry of railways to clear the backlog of the harbour line,” said a senior official, who had accompanied the railway minister in Mumbai.
“The other three projects are extending the line from Panvel to Uran, a separate fast-train corridor with air-conditioned locals and a third line to decongest the existing harbour track to segregate goods lines. Work on all these has begun.”
The average rise in commuter traffic on the harbour line in the last five years has been 9%-10%, while the same is 3%-4% on the suburban central and western main lines.” the official said.
Considering the estimated rise in traffic in the next 20 years, it would not be possible to operate the required train services on the existing corridor, which requires two additional tracks. These additional tracks could be fast tracks leading to Navi Mumbai, and save at least 30 minutes of travel time up to Panvel.”
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation has begun work on a study report on the practicalities of the implementation that will involve increasing the length of platforms and re-spacing signals and overhead equipment at the elevated stations of Cotton Green, Sandhurst Road and Dockyard Road at an approximate cost of Rs800 crore.

Look at how others cities are progressing on Suburban Trains on existing facility, Bangalore is way behind in urban Transport with patting our back ourselves for the BMTC services. METRO will be in reality in 2015, so till that time enjoy the pain of travelling in Bangalore.
No Mention of CRS for Bangalore.
Hi All,
In INDIA either the politicians should have will power to develop their state or the People should start doing strikes etc which may be illegal but still it will work. If we go in more professional ways by submitting letters over letters, it will not work.
Entire world knows that bangalore traffic is a big cheos. But our IR and the IR Ministry will not know the problem because it doe's not belong to their state and our politicians as usual busy in other activities.

The Panvel-Virar Suburban corridor would require a dedicated Depot cum workshop facility for the maintenance of the rakes. The total coach holding would increase to about 576i.e 48 Rakes of 12 car in the horizon year 2041 to meet the traffic demand. All the rakes will be serviced at main Depot cum workshop for the scheduled inspections, major schedules viz Periodical overhaul (POH) and major unscheduled repairs. The main depot will also house Operation Control Centre (OCC), Administrative Building, maintenance facilities for Civil – track, buildings, water supply; Electrical – traction, E&M; Signalling & Telecomm.; etc. apart from necessary facilities viz stabling lines, scheduled inspection lines, workshop for overhaul, unscheduled maintenance including major repairs, wheel profiling, heavy interior/under frame/roof cleaning etc. for the rolling stock operational on the corridor.
For starting the morning services, some rakes will have to be kept at terminal stations and stabling facilities for the remaining rakes will have to be provided at the depot
