'Unique PPP Initiative for Mahadevapura' - Note from R K Misra

Some like him, some don't. Recently, I met with Mr R K Misra, one objective was to learn about an initiative for development for Mahadevapura area (Whitefield, Marathahalli, Sarjapura etc). At the end of it, I got a note from RK for posting here on his behalf. Well, here it is, unedited. Pardon me if you think this is marketing for an individual's organization or philosophy. I am not endorsing one thing over another. Any developmental news is worth sharing. Whether we like one group's philosophy, or hate an individual's approach, we should be in the know of these "outlets" for activism.

Meeting Notes - Mr Sood, Sep 20

Traffic
Placeholder for notes from this meeting. Started almost 2 hours late as Mr Sood had to rush off to another meeting. We were asked to wait till 1 if possible. We spent this time chatting up with each other, and even managed a lunch at Shivajinagar bus stand canteen. Right when we planned to call it a day, Mr Sood returned. psaram, idontspam, Deepika, Srivathsa, silkboard, Ravi and Devesh (only for the intro) were present. Look fwd to meeting notes from all.

NICE jinxed ?

http://www.mid-day.com/ne...

Now its the state fighting against the NICE again. We thought it was all over but problems are back with some other reasons..POLITICS!

Bellary mine owners found it very lucrative to be in power and so does Kheny think. But then BSY felt threatened!

Why doesnt Kheny fight from Bidar, his hometown!?

Quick Metro updates

Metro Rail

Prajagale' - two quick metro updates from last week.

1) Yeddy has asked BMRC to study extending Metro from Byappanhalli to BIA (airport at Devenahalli). Suhas sir had mentioned this in his review of CTTP here. Source: Express Buzz and other papers also.

SH17 - road of death, need highway patrol

Bangalore Mysore HighwayA few deaths on Bellary Road, and it got so much attention. By the way, police's efforts to enforce are working, I hear that a good number of cabs keep themselves to 80 kmph, and drivers either buckle up or think about putting on seat belts on Nh7. So perhaps, the fear of punishment does work. Now, how about the Bangalore Mysore highway?

First of all, its foolish to build high speed roads that are not access controlled in whatever way, limited or full fledged. That road is literally hell right now, with death awaiting at about 50-60 points along the 100 odd km length.

Govt of India on Infrastructure

Governance

Keep digging Government websites and you come across lots of interesting stuff. Wonder if we should build a search engine dedicated to sarkaari websites. Anyway, here is an interesting site: Committee on Infrastructure. This committee was setup:

What if the Nano had to be built in Belgaum?

Its breaking news on the business front that the Nano plant from singur will get shifted to Dharwad.

Tata Motors MD Ravi Kant met the Karnataka CM today and Tata Motors have confirmed that they are looking for alternatives to Singur to shift their Nano project.

The Karnataka Government has offered 1000 acres for the Nano car project and all “incentives and support. Tata Motors already has a manufacturing unit in Dharwad where it makes the low-floor Marco Polo buses.

Car pooling: how about government facilitating it?

We always talk about how good it will be if people opt for car pooling while commuting to office. Although most of us agree that car pooling is a great idea, not many of us actually get to do it. There can be many reasons for it, which mostly relate to people either not wanting to share their car or not bothering to find someone to share it with.

Given this problem, I think it would make more sense for the government to come forward and facilitate car-pooling for the people.

The basic idea:

Mono vs LRT vs METRO vs Commuter vs Suburban vs ...

This is something I have been dying to understand better. What is the real difference between the various rail based transport systems ? That is, the engineering aspect. Fundamentally arent they all wheels on a track.

Is it just a question of capacity ? Just scaling the strength of the supporting civil infrastructure ? Do we call a higher capacity LRT a METRO ?

Rail for cargo not for people

GoK is more intent on using the railway infrastructure for Cargo purposes for the proposed Devanahalli Business Park (DBP) and does not seem to be inclined to using it for commuters.

See the "sop" of railways mentioned in the EoI for the DBP :
