An interesting presentation that I came across about the grim future :

This may seem exaggerated to us now - but with oil & water shortages looming large & the inevitable scarcity of resources threatening us soon, it might turn out to be true if steps are not taken by mankind to avert the disaster in the making....

The reality verses fiction

That was a very interesting slide show. Thanks Mr. Naveen.

I am reminded of the year 1959 when I read my first Isaac Asimov novel 123 infinity. This is the author who wrote several brilliant science fiction novels. I am also reminded of a TV serial whose theme was cosmic travel (instant transportation) at mind speed (Manoe Vegue). I used to wonder some time about the poisonous gases that IC engines spew into the atmosphere.

However I think IA or for that matter any scientist was aware of anything of the inconvenient truth as we know it now, in the year 1959.

Prudent usage of electricity can save millions of units. One unit saved is equal to 3 units generated. Sun light harvesting should become the mantra; electricity is being misused during day time for lighting up the interiors of shops, hotels, government offices, banks, 5 star hotels etc., even though infinite sun light is available just outside our windows and doors; we can harvest sunshine and get free light. Example: one 40 volts GLS bulb/tube light switched off during day time for 6 hours can save 8 units of electricity in a month. If one lakh consumers can adopt free method of sunlight harvesting, we can save 8,00,000 units per month and in six months we can save 4,80,00,000 units. This simple method of stopping misuse of electricity during day time will reduce emission of carbon dioxide and green house gases that create climate change and global warming/global dimming.

260 – 280 ppm
Average concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere before industrial emissions.
50 – 200 years
Length of time carbon dioxide stays in the earth's atmosphere before it is absorbed into carbon sinks.
1000 years
Length of time changes in the earth's surface temperature, rainfall, and sea level will remain even after carbon dioxide emissions are completely stopped.
34%
Percentage that 2008's Arctic seasonal sea ice melt outpaced normal levels.

We have seven more years to go.. refer to Nobel Lauretes warnings.
