Where do you want the Vidhan Soudha in Belgaum: Poll Results

A poll (offline and online) was being conducted by Mr. Rajeev Topannavar. This site also carried the said poll link. Here are the results of the poll.

Tomorrow the committee constituted by the CM for site selection of vidhana soudha building is coming to Belgaum where this report will be submitted to them. 34% of the people who voted in the poll want the site to be Halga, next choice is Sambra followed by Vaccine Depot. And I have fulfilled my promise made earlier that I will see that this site gets the results first!

Cool stuff and hope this works in persuading the stakeholders to consider a place that is more suitable for Vidhana Soudha. I have a question though why did many choose Halga? I am not from Belgaum so not aware of the topography and geographical areas around it.

Halga because on NH4

Halga is hardly 10 kms from Belgaum on the NH4 on the way to Bangalore. So I guess all thought that Halga would be the best site. As it is near the highway and commuting to the soudha would be easy than making it somewhere in the city itself.

I don't think it's a good idea to have a Vidhan Soudha in every district capital. In Kengal Hanumanthaiah's times, we were still in a Socialist regime, with government having an imposing presence in every field, and, as such, a Vidhan Soudha may have been justified. Times have changed, and according to me, the government needs to downsize itself to less than a third of its present gargantuan size, if it has to meet the cost of its more important social commitments. We cannot afford the present profligacy any more. Read more at

PS: My idea is not to pour cold water on the effort, but to try and get a focus on priorities
