POWER & SPEED create big holes in pockets

In the past few days, ‘Singh has become the King’, the share market is now again ready to take a leap upwards and Crude oil prices are heading only southwards. All these things are very nice for the common man. Today crude is trading at about 124.24$ which is of its high of almost 150$.

At the time when, oil prices were rising upwards the oil companies in India adopted a nice way to “LOOT” the public by selling only PREMIUM petrol & diesel. Since then prices have increased and the local fuel sellers who were only selling branded fuel again went back to regular fuel.

However, since the past couple of days again the “LOOT” has begun. You are compelled to buy branded fuel like Power & Speed and to add to that when I fueled my car today morning for Rs.500 the vendor said this is the last time he will be filling for Rs.500 and henceforward the max fueling will be only Rs.200, the person fueling said.

Now, I have a point to make here. The fuel prices have come down all is normal then why is that we are compelled to buy this costly branded fuel when we do not want it.
Many of you must have faced this problem, kindly leave your comments so that others also know about it. I had raised this issue earlier on this very blog and the local newspapers have done it. Nevertheless, who will bell the cat is the question?

Until then, just see POWER & SPEED create big holes in your pockets.

Crude is still very high

Belgaumblog,

When the government upped the price about 6-7 weeks back, crude was trading at $125 which is the same as today.  When the price spiked to $147 no increases were made.

For a variety of reasons, the oil companies are losing money on every liter of petro products they sell, except for ATF (that is another topic).

The government through its misguided policies has complicated pricing a lot.  Net the oil companies are losing money on normal petrol.  You can see the result in today's paper - long queues at bunks, diesel shortages everywhere.

By pricing it properly, conservation will be encourgaed.  Instead we are getting forced conservation by not getting diesel at all.

I prefer the premium petrol

I have a TVS Apache and I have measured my mileage on both kinds of fuel. I have noticed that with Premium/Power, even though for Rs100 I get less than what I wuold with regular petrol - the mileage is the same. For 100 rs of Regular Petrol I get about 1.75 Litres which gives me 86 kms. For 100 Rs. of Premium Petrol I get about 1.56 Lites which givesd me 86 Kms. So as a measure to consume less I always fill the premium variety. Also the bunk guys treat u better if you fill the more expnsive one!

I am against this LOOT by the Govt itself.

When the Govt.(the oil cos are owned by the Govt.) it self imposes restrictions on sale. Infact for this kind of trade, the MRTP act Monopolies and trade Restrective practices act has been passed by Govt. But whats the use.

If you call any officla and ask about they say nothing like that, its that there is a shortage so you might have faced that problem. We dont force anyone to buy branded fuel.

But in real the thing is different. I dont know about Bangalore but in Belgaum you do get regular fuel but you need to travel and find out where you can get it. So spend more fuel on that.

IOC has run out of funds to buy crude - TOI report

Saw this report in the TOI

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Business/IOC_runs_out_of_funds

Absolutely scary.  It is the result of our government's excellent policies of trying to "protect" us from reality - robbing Peter to pay Paul and then robbing Paul to pay Peter.

I have not been around the city - but today's TOI has some telling pictures.

I get the nasty feeling that the government is letting things go to this extent so that a price hike being the only solution becomes obvious to people.

Free up petrol and diesel

Under free market principles, when market prices are dictated, wasteful consumption is curtailed. The Central Government was mulling to decontrol petrol prices and i hope it will undertake that.

You know, there is no real shortage of diesel in Karnataka. Just drive beyond Electronics City and into Hosur, you will get diesel at cheaper rates. There is no reported shortage of diesel in Andhra Pradesh. Why is it that only Karnataka and more specifically Bangalore experiencing this?

Politics at work maybe......

Diesel Shortage -- power cuts?

up

mcadambi, I think the problem here is really many fold. On one hand we have the rising prices of crude, on the other we in Karnataka have been facing power cuts like never before. This has only increased the burden on Diesel which powers gensets at large. I was having a chat with the secretary an apartment society of just 24 flats. He told me that last month alone the Diesel bill has been 11,000 Rs and they are considering hiking the maintainance charges if this persists. Quite obviously the consumption of diesel across Bangalore has increased. -- Praveen Sundaram AkA PhotoYogi
