One more from our people's govt. Government changes. MLAs change parties. But their typical decision making process doesn't change. Instead of bringing fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability, our political leaders from far left to extreme right would not spare a chance for bringing more government control in all aspects of present day life. This is nothing to do with the professed right or left ideology. It is not based on any socialism or free market economy convictions. More control means more avenue for kickbacks, more opportunity to place kith & kins at these managements. There is nothing rational about such decisions. The slogan of party with difference has been changed to Party of no difference.

unfortunate legacy
Exactly, Syedbhai! There never was and there never can be bigger Socialists (in the true spirit of the word) than Dr Ambedkar, Nehru, etc, the founding fathers of the Indian constitution.
However, they themselves opted out of listing the word 'Socialism' under the 'directive principles' of the Constitution. It was not an oversight, it was deliberate; since they had very clearly foreseen how it could be misused.
And, the irony of it all is that Nehru's own daughter, using emergency powers, brought about the amendment to the Constitution to include the S-word in the directive principles, in order to pursue her own nefarious agenda, justifying it with her infamous quote 'corruption is a global phenomenon'.
This is the legacy we are now having difficulty living down.
