Namma kere have been converted into 'nimma layout'!
'Namma kere' will be converted into 'Namma Nela ' (Land) in a matter of few years! The water bodies which I used to visit for picnics have all become'Developers' paradise! Each Govt have deliberately yurned a blind eye to this water massacre and made sure their contractor friends got enough layouts and projects ot of the water bodies. Don't believe any speaker who bemoans this, as he/ she were involved actively in this. New layouts will make Bangalore absolutely inhabitable, not that it is any different now!
Going.
Year 1959
Place: Rajajinagara behind the present Navarang theatre/park
Space between Rajajinagara II block, now Navarang theatre and Srirampuram/Harishchandra Ghat was a tank spreading from Ramachandrapuram to Milk Colony near Metro Cash & Carry. Later a bund was built between these two places and people/vehicles started moving (now Mahakavi Kuvempu Road) - portion of lake continued to exist in Subramanyapuram/Milk colony and the present Prakash Nagar area till late 1970s.
1983 - Two boats that were stored in a building (now occupied by KLE College) just above Navarang Park were taken away by Corporation authorities and I helped moving them because these boats were lying in front of my house in II Block, Rajajinagara, Namma Bengaluru.
Juwt remembering the beautiful tank.
