There was opposition to the movement of petroleum products through this (Manglaore - Bangalore) stretch. The district offices in Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Tumkur, Bangalore Rural and Bangalore Urban districts had sent repeated suggestions to the oil companies to utilise the Mangalore Bangalore Petroleum Pipeline corridor already laid between Thokur in Mangalore taluk to Devana Gundi in Nelamangala taluk in Bangalore Rural to ferry the petroleum products.
However, the oil companies are not paying any heed to the orders.
“There is a big tanker lobby from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, working behind the scenes,” said office-bearers of trade unions in Mangalore.

This is similar to the bus lobby discussed earlier here..
Just because some transport companies have invested on trucks..they are not using the pipeline!
This is ridiculous..all these trucks make this unnecessary trip..
- risking many lives
- damaging road
- spending unnecessary fuel
Is there a way to break this stupid practice?

Tanker Accident Near Hassan
Hi,
It has happened few year back near Shanthigrama near Hassan. A fully loaded gas tanker turned down and fallen down blocking the entire road. There may be a chance of explosion any time. So all the vehicles from Channarayapatna to Hassan diverted through Arsikere which is another 25 kms extra than the normal distance. Many passangers travelling from Bangalore are suffered like anything by missing link buses which goes to their villages.
It should be banned or should be allowed with smaller tankers.
