Prices do what we can't other wise do!

Three cheers to higher fuel prices! :-)
Fuel price deregulation would reflect the true opportunity cost of fuel. In a country which thinks that subsidising fuel (which it knows is being stolen) is a form of "social justice", the pinch of reality is bound to occur sooner or later.
If the trend in chennai is to patronage public transport, then the trend is similarly bound to pick up throughout India, namma bengaluru included.
I can suggest BBMP to levy an additional cess on all the petrol / diesel sold in the city to cross subsidise public transport.

I second it provided the cess is funnelled for PT systems!
mcadambi,
I second your thoughts on charging additional tax for subsidizing PT system. But on same count, every penny that is collected for PT should go into PT systems.
