Today, Shri. Jagadish Shettar, CM, Government of Karnataka presented his maiden and last budget before the state elections slated in Mid-April. Tried to collect some details on what is being doled out to improvements in Bangalore. Here is a summary list that was published in Deccan Herald.

For Bangalore

  • City development gets a total of Rs 6,203 crores. Bangalore contributes 30% of Karnataka's GDP. What it gets in return is peanuts. State should pay more attention to its cash cow.
  •
  • Metro phase 2 gets Rs 8,69 crores.
  •
  • Rs 2,400 crores to develop Kempe Gowda layout; 15,000 sites to be allocated
  •
  • Okalipuram- Khoday circle to get a grade separator
  •
  • Hebbal, Doddanekundi and Ibbalur to get flyovers
  •
  • Rs 300 crore for road works; Rs 2,500 crore for peripheral ring road
  •
  • New flyovers at Chalukya, Shivananda and Siddalingiah circles
  •
  • 200 crores to BBMP for infrastructure; Dialysis centres in all constituencies
  •
  • Rs 500 crores to build grade separators to manage traffic

Please feel free to add if there is more to it.

Spend some time to scan for all the State budget news in all the news papers. There was no mention of any budget allocation or even mention of Namma Railu?

Once more GOK has missed a golden opportunity to show some vision for sustainable growth and development.

@santoshfs,

As the saying goes devil is in the details. Media for most fo the times doesn't carry the factual positions. There is nothing substantial on NR front. The budget only refers conducting a study.

88. Hubli – Dharwad BRTS company has been established to implement the Hubli – Dharwad rapid bus transit system. World Bank is providing Rs.250 crore loan for this project and initial works have been taken up. A study is being conducted regarding setting up of commuter rail system in Kengeri-Ramanagar, Byappanahalli – Hosur, Yeshwanthapur – Tumkur and Yelahanka – Doddaballapur routes.

Kengeri-Ramanagar, Byappanahalli – Hosur, Yeshwanthapur – Tumkur and Yelahanka – Doddaballapur routes

As can be seen these are all non-metro routes and pose no conflict of interest..so maybe this was done with metro focus(including phII extensions)

It seems like they want to expand Kanakpura road in order to improve connectivity between Bangalore and Mysore. Has the Nandi Expressway been completely abandoned ? I suppose the politiciians want to have the ability to hold people hostage at Mandya whenever there is some Kaveri water problem, so they dont really want to have alternatives.

kanakapura road expansion

this is being done by NHAI and not by the state govt..however state govt is already making the road from mysore to bannur 4 laned..hence this will be the alternate route to mysore..one that is much less affected by any kind of agitations..

The current plan is Blr - Dindigul road (NH 209), till Kanakapura will be made 4 laned and tolled..

Hub at BRV?

The recent budget announcements around road projects for bangalore centres around BRV parade grounds..

Construction of 25 km long elevated golden quadrangle road at (a) Hebbal-BRV ground (b) Hennur-BRV Ground (c) Central Silk Board - Lalbagh Chickpet upto Mysore Road Fly-over (Sirsi Circle) (d) BRV ground to upto Mysore Road Fly-over (Sirsi Circle)

Sounds really fancy and more on the lines of a populist budget..nothing might really get executed..just like the tendersure projects of 2012 budget..
