The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is all set to widen 105 roads by the end of 2011, according to Chairman of the Standing Committee on Major Roads, H Ravindra.
Standing firm on the road widening proposal, Ravindra said the Palike will continue with the projects as mentioned in the Revised Master Plan 2015. These roads are part of the 216 identified for widening in the master plan.
After the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) declared that it would widen 105 roads, hectic parleys were held in the Palike on Thursday to tackle the highly controversial issue of Transfer of Development Rights (TDR).
However, Bangaloreans may heave a sigh of relief if the proposal made by Palike Commissioner Siddaiah is considered. According to BBMP sources, the Commissioner has directed the Engineering Department to take up only those projects which are most important and in phases. Hence, only five roads will be widened at once. At present the proposal covers 91 roads in the City.
The Standing Committee Chairman H Ravindra reiterated his stand to clear all the pending 105 road widening proposals within the calendar year.
