Whenever I am waiting to see my cardiologist, at his clinic in Indiranagar, there are invariably a couple of drug representatives who put in their cards with the receptionist for an appointment with the doctor. The doctor meets the reps only after he is through with the patients of course. When my doctor changed a drug which I was using for ages I was not comfortable. This was even before today’s story in TOI which relates to the objectionable practices of some drug companies to boost their sales. Such practices are banned in many countries, according to the to days TOI front page report: “Drugs boosting doc’s lifestyle.”
The revelation made in the report like “A Pharmacy firm alone has a budget of Rs 2Cr for freebies for Doctors” etc are in reference to this post.
We in India have to rely on Doctors ethics and reliability, when our government is not sensitive about this issue till now.
