"The footpaths proposed in the Metro zone areas around stations are a good beginning"

Footpaths: This film was made by Samarth Saran, Saumya Tyagi and Bharat Sharma — a team of three people from the Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media, Bangalore who took part in the short-film making competition held at IIM Ahmedabad’s flagship management festival Confluence 2010.

Sky-walk, literally

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

The BBMP, it would appear, likes to impart literal meaning to the term sky-walk. This set (pictures below), coming up at the High Grounds junction (facing the Sophia school, and behind Basava Bhavan), has a ground clearance enough for a BMTC bus to pass under, even with a full grown adult standing erect on top.

Avenues & Boulevards of Mysore

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure
  • In the wake of MCC going on a road widening blitzkrieg, few of us are meeting the Commissioner of Mysore, few Corporators and couple of Ministers (depending on their availability) between 30 Oct and 1 Nov.
  • Apart from a reliable public transport, Mysore also needs good engineering minds in the Corporation. Some of the roads have been widened from

Interesting video summarizing pedestrian infrastructure problems in India

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

I am not sure if this has been posted before on Praja, did some searching and could not find it, hence i am posting it.

I found an interesting video on the problems faced by pedestrians in Pune. This is very much applicable to any Indian city. I would rate this as one of the best (& captivating) short movies/documentaries I have seen in my entire life.

Walking in Bangalore - Amenities for Pedestrians

Too much stress on road width for vehicles has eaten up pavements and encorachment of pavements for purposes other than walking is also on the rise. Talk of signal free corridors etc also means bad news for those who regularly cross these roads.

This wiki/book is to hold together references and popular discussions on pedestrian infrastructure in Bengaluru.

Say no to road widening in Bangalore - Petitions

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

40,000 properties in Bangalore are likely to be demolished to widen 227 roads by displacing 38,000 to 2 lakh people for private vehicles. Pedestrians have no footpaths to walk. Road widenings must be stopped. Homes, properties and livelihoods of the citizens must be saved. Roads should be accessible for all sections of society.

Metro - MG Road Boulevard

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

BMRC has uploaded an artists impression of the proposed MG Road Boulevard. Large 10MB file full of graphics.
MG Road Boulevard

Proposal is for a two level boulevard,  spread along a 400m corridor next to the metro pillars that ends at Anil Kumble Jn.

Should be a nice place to go to if the reality turns out as good.... Couldn't help think why cramp so many different activities in just a half a km stretch. Personally I'd prefer a single theme to a place, and many such places along the Metro lines. Why only MG Road? Why not landscape and use area under the pillars along many such places in the city?
