BBMP- Delivery of Municipal Services Award

BANGALORE: The Government of India has chosen the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for the runners up award for improvement in delivery of municipal services. Union Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy presented the award to the BBMP Commissioner S. Subramanya and Karnataka Urban Development Secretary K. Jothiramalinmgam at the national conference on Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) at New Delhi on Monday. The Centre had instituted national awards under JNNURM for urban local bodies under various categories relating to the city and different areas of institutional reforms and service delivery standards. Assessment According to a press release, a performance assessment of JNNURM cities was undertaken to determine the awards. The runners up award bagged by BBMP is in recognition of the civic body’s efforts in remodelling the existing storm water drains in the city. The conference, inaugurated by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, was attended by Urban Development Ministers of all States, city Mayors, State Urban Development Secretaries and Commissioners. source: Hindu

roads over drains?

talk of storm water drains reminds me. What happened BBMP's plan of building roads over storm water drains? It seemed like a good one, and its about time we heard next steps on it. BTW - good to see BBMP get an ward. Keep it up guys.

have to be careful what we wish for here. unless they pay special attention to engineering this will spoil the already stressed up drainage system. remember chennai? hosur road type elevated highway will not do... #1. the bases of the piers must not block flow or tend to accumulate debris #2. widen the drains by the amount taken up by the piers #3. best option is some system which can have support structures on the shoulders of the drains some sort of cantilevered piers or a structure based on vertical beams on either side..

mysore road rod

work on the planned rod at gali anjaneya temple jn has been started..i guess..theres lot of construction activity going on..this may pave way for more rods!

Can anyone tell me about this Gali Anjaneya junction grade separator? Its features? project timelines? etc. I last visited that area about 3 weeks back. Didn't see any construction on Mysore Road except the storm water drain being lined by concrete walss.
