Commuter Rail

With the report prepared by RITES, suggesting that Hejjala on Mysore road be developed as a terminal, it is only obvious that in future, it might even house the long distance trains entering and leaving Bangalore. Hence, in order to facilitate the smooth movement of trains in all directions, I feel that the following railway lines are needed :

  • Bidadi - Harohalli - Kaggalipura - Bannerghatta - Jigani - Anekal - Attibele - Sarjapura - Varthur - Whitefield so that trains from Mysore going towards Chennai or elsewhere in Tamil Nadu can completely by-pass the ever- busy city station, while covering other densely populated parts of the city. If the line is aligned to run via Electronic City, this line can be used by commuter rail as well.
  • Hejjala - NICE ROAD (Mysore road Junction) -  Magadi Road -NICE ROAD Junction, Tumkur Road - NICE ROAD Junction - Yelahanka so that trains from Mysore to Hyderabad / Shirdi etc. can avoid city station again. Needless to say, when local trains are run along this line, they cater to a whole lot of residential areas such Visveraya layout, Ullal Satellite town, Ullal etc.

The above lines reduce congestion at the city station which can be developed as a terminus where only trains halting in Bangalore would be allowed.

  • Nelamangala - Gollahalli railway line needs to be developed so that the commuter rail to Tumkur from Bangalore caters to a greater population by passing through the town. The long distance trains can ply along the existing trunk line while the local trains run via Nelamangala.
  • Doddaballapur - Nelamangala - Rajanukunte railway line enables the commuter rail to be introduced along Nelamangala - Doddaballapur and Nelamangala - Yelahanka corridors besides enabling the further development of Nelamangala as a junction or a rail terminal in future. It is a known fact that BMTC buses along these corridors are already running full and hence trains when introduced, help in serving the people better.

These were some of my ideas....I would be eager to read through the suggestions and thoughts of my other fellow Bangaloreans, who are striving for efficient train transportation between Bangalore city center and its metropolitan areas.
