Bangalore is ahead of Osaka, Japan in terms of Human Capital and next to Frankfurt, Germany in the same. It is one of the top 50 cities of the world, according to AT Kearney, Inc a consultancy and "Foreign Policy", a foreign policy magazine based in the US.

New Delhi and Mumbai are ahead of Bangalore in other rankings, but not in terms of Human Potential.

I am sure, we citizens, who are infact the strongest agents of change can make Bangalore a top 10 world city.

The 21st century will not be dominated by America or China, Brazil or India, but by the city

But many of the fastest-growing places are far down on the list, proving the point that it's a lot easier to grow big than it is to grow smart

The index aims to measure how much sway a city has over what happens beyond its own borders -- its influence on and integration with global markets, culture, and innovation,

Though Bangalore ranks way behind on the index, it features as a dominant player on the technology front.

Praja is definitely doing justice to that tag and uniquely positioned to connect the benefits of technology to upgrading physical infrastructure on the ground.

So in 3 years since this post Osaka (47) has improved while Bangalore(58) has fallen behind. We are probably sitting around and hoping time will stop still and we dont need to do anything. Pertinent to quote Marshall Goldsmith here

What got you here, wont get you there

The average Indian earned $255 in 1980, while the average Chinese earned $313.

Thirty years later, there is a yawning gap between the average incomes of Indians and Chinese: $1,124 and $3,999, respectively

We are hovering around the per capita income levels of some of the better African states, while China is now on a par with some East European and South American countries

Twenty-two million Australians produce almost the same value of annual output as 1.2 billion Indians do. In other words, the average Australian produces nearly 55 times more than an average Indian

the Chinese economy is now about four times larger than ours. It produces in one quarter what we produce in one year.

The silver lining

India today has a per capita income that is almost equal to what China had in 2002. That means India is just eight years behind China in the development race

Indians need access to capital, credit, skills and markets to climb the productivity ladder.

We cant build our roads, tunnels or cities properly. We lack basic skills to build things properly and run them efficiently.Always look for outside help. We need to get better at these things. One E Sreedharan or Sir MV not a country make. Cant afford to be a banana republic, soon African countries will overtake us.

China races ahead

After three decades of spectacular growth, China passed Japan in the second quarter to become the world’s second-largest economy behind the United States, according to government figures released early on Monday

China also passed Germany last year to become the world’s biggest exporter.

China is in the throes of urbanisation and is far from developed, analysts say, meaning it has a much lower standard of living, as well as a lot more room to grow

China is still a developing country. So it has a lot of room to grow. And China has the biggest impact on commodity prices — in Russia, India, Australia and Latin America

The country’s leaders have grown more confident on the international stage and have begun to assert greater influence in Asia, Africa and Latin America, with things like special trade agreements and multibillion dollar resource deals

Current crop of Politicians & Beraucrats are singlehandedly responsible for the state India is in. A leader who can bring them all together for a public centered goal is simply absent.
