Dr Ashwin Mahesh for MLC

Politics

MLC for the Bangalore Graduates Constituency (election to which is coming up around June) is the only reprsentative - at any level of government - who is elected across the whole city, indeed the entire metropolitan region. This is an office unlike any other, and ideally it should be held by someone who can articulate a vision for the Bangalore city and region, and work to build it.

BMTC route changes in the recent month

BusPublic Transport

In collaboration with the Bangalore Traffic police, following changes have been made in BMTC routes in Bangalore city

Diversion 1: Netkallapa circle, Basavanagudi

regarding peripheral ring road (PRR) - between Dobbaspet & Hosur

Infrastructure

I came across a news item that a peripheral ring road is being planned between Dobbaspet & Hosur.

CRS will be a boon for IT professionals

Commuter RailPublic Transport

Rithesh Swamy lives near the Yelahanka Railway Station. Yet, his travel to ITPL is cumbersome as there are no connecting trains till ITPL from Yelahanka during peak office hours. The KR Puram, Hebbal and Marathahalli junctions are chock-a-block with vehicles in peak hours. A well-networked commuter rail will provide some respite, say passengers.

Phase-2 - East not connected

Metro RailPublic Transport

The routes chosen under phase-2 for Namma Metro are pretty good, no doubt. However, the east (except for Whitefield) will remain largely unconnected. This will surely get corrected in future phase/s.

Vending zones soon in city

In future, the streets and pavements should be in order, with vendors taking places allotted to them. The Karnataka Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Bill, approved by the cabinet on Tuesday, aims to streamline hawking by having specified vending zones and ensure convenience to pedestrians and motorists.

Highway Safety in India

Infrastructure

I was recently driving on the NICE Road between PES College to Somapura Intersection. My car was the only car and I was cruising at around 90kph. While I was nearing the intersection climbing an uphill unable to see what is there on the otherside of the road after it flattens, suddenly I saw 6-7 people standing in the middle of the road which they are not supposed to be since it is a freeway.

Banashankari TTMC Creating more trouble than convenience

Public Transport

Recently inaguarated TTMC is causing hassles to all the buses travelling from Western Portion of Bangalore towards East such as the 201, 201R, 500 K etc.. All the buses are now forced to enter and exit the Banashankari TTMC. The entrance and exit being narrower, as well as capacity being lower is resulting in pile up of Buses.

Banana Republic

Public Health

It is highly unlikely that all the directors of AMRI, Kolkata, were in charge of day-to-day functioning of the hospital. It was the same when the Bhopal disaster happened.

Hazardous installations

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

This picture was taken on the footpath opposite Aadishwar showroom on the intermediate ring road (some 50M before the start of the Domlur fly-over ramp - approaching from Koramangala side). While such instances are not isolated across the city, what I found unique about this particular installation was its cross-arm covering almost the entire width of the footpath.
