When Sunita Rao called me yesterday evening, about Bellandur Lake, we talked about diverting the storm water drain sewage water being discharged into the Lake. I must admit of my folly. The basic question is why is the sewage water flowing in the Storm water Drain in the first place?!!!! The reason is obvious!

WHEN EVER A SEWAGE MAN HOLE STARTS OVER SPILLING SEWAGE WATER IT IS DIVERTED INTO THE ADJOINING STORM WATER DRAIN ALL OVER THE CITY

Every day I am witnessing this phenomenon during my regular morning walks!

Why are they doing it? Because the Corporator or the MLA in our case want a quick fix solution. The concerned departments try and work out junk un-scientific schemes. Why would they do such a thing? Eleimentary Mr. Watson!

The earlier project was not a scam. We wouldn’t even call it a failure. The project was taken up for the first time in the city and there was no co-ordination with the BWSSB which continued to release into the lake 3 million liters of sewage every day, said K S Sai Baba, CEO, LDA.

Remembering the green valley of yesteryear
Manjula Lakshmappa, who has been living in Bellandur for the past 15 years, recalls how the lake was earlier. “There was a channel for rain water and I remember using that water for drinking too. Now, the lake is pathetic. It stinks. The entire city’s waste finds its way to this lake.”

Activist’s take
why has there been no public consultation with experts and residents who live close to the lake? The same project was taken up earlier and it was futile. CAG said the project misused funds. What happened to those who misused the funds? All that has to be done is to divert sewage entering the lake. Otherwise, Bellandur Lake cannot be saved. Palangala S Ananthram | RETIRED

As the name suggests, LDA should have the authority to sue BWSSB for unauthorized diversion of sewage water in to the storm water drains. Instead of feeding our lakes with pure rain water during rainy season the SWDs are dischagng millions of seawge water daily.

Does LDA want to keep spending money cleaning Bellandur Lake as many times required! Why if so?  Elementary Mr. Watson!

All Lakes under "LDA" need fencing and roads all along their boundaries. [The fencing done at Bellandur Lake to my knowledge is only partial. Is it hardly one percent?]

Will our government be a mute spectator?
