Complaints to MoS Shri K H Muniyappa on Hubli Railway Workshop

On complaints about decreasing work load at the Hubli workshop and reports of closing it down, General Manager of South-Western Railway Kuldeep Chaturvedi termed the reports as false and said that upgrade of the workshop was under way and once completed there would be enough work for all.

Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa said that most of the announced projects for Karnataka in the Railway Budget would start soon and that survey for them would begin shortly.

Muniyappa told reporters here on Saturday that the budgetary allocation for railway projects in the state has increased from Rs 650 crore to Rs 950 crore. The state government has also expressed interest to invest Rs 600 crore to set-up railway infrastructure. Nearly Rs 1,500 crore would be spent in the next year to improve the railway services and infrastructure.

He hailed the gesture of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to expand railway networks in the state and expressed confidence that the railway services in the state would phenomenally change in the next few years.

Muniyappa said that as far as Hubli-Ankol rail line was concerned, the Railways had altered the alignment such that 720 hectare of forest land would be deforested as against 950 hectare in earlier alignment. Muniyappa said he was optimistic that the project would get environment clearance.

Muniyappa also ruled out closing down the over century- old Hubli Railway Works.

The running time of trains bound for southern destinations from Chennai is expected to come down, with Southern Railway planning to introduce locomotives with higher hauling power, Chief Mechanical Engineer V. Carmelus said on Tuesday.

A Rs.10-crore project for the maintenance of high-speed locomotives such as WDP4 and WDG4 is moving towards completion at the Golden Rock Workshop in Tiruchi. The broad gauge doubling works between Chennai and Madurai, nearing end, would facilitate operation of trains at a much higher speed as it would eliminate unscheduled stoppages for crossings.

“As of now, the periodical overhauling and other repair work of locomotives with high horse power are done at Hubli in South Western Railway. Once the maintenance facility becomes operational in Tiruchi, we will have more such locomotives. In our zone, Chennai-Tirunelveli-Chennai Nellai Express is hauled with WDP4 locomotives,” Mr. Carmelus said.

Now with Bangalore to Mysore  Track getting electrified with  further Pune to Wadi is getting electrified, then work load on Hubli workshop  will come down drasically.  I am surprised, how come GM of South Western Railway  is claiming work load will increase. Also Guntakal to Vasco via Hubli line is planned to be elctrified, then time will come for Hubli workshop to close down.

Now Railways should plan for Electrification of Bangalore-Hubli-Pune and Hubli workshop should be upgraded to handel  repair of the Electric Loco engines.
