Road Works

Footpaths upgraded but width reduced

InfrastructurePedestrian Infrastructure

I live in Kumarapark (BBMP Ward No 77) and i was initially pleased to see the footpaths getting a face lift. Yes Serpentine road is having spanking new machine finished granite slabs to cover the drain and make for the footpath.

One more example!

Today's DH carried this article. I have seen quite a few of these haphazardly written infrastructure related articles. I cannot understand why they don't bother with little bit more research...

How about a Bangalore related Projects library?...

Public Transport

Imagine a single portal (a book or pages of gyan) where we could log in and see:

> A chronicled listing of all projects related to Bangalore City

Hosur Elevated Road - after completion

Miles & miles of pillars

If you want to imagine how the elevated highway is going to look post completion, start with few month old pictures from foto sun @ flickr (see below). The one on right is my favorite though.

Traffic finally flows across CBI Jn Magic Box

Infrastructure

Finally The CBI Jn seems to be open to public, Not sure if some lessons have been learnt... There is no tar on the road still! Its got this "super rubble" finish that tests out vehicle road fitness!!!

Outer Ring Road project - work first, tender later?

Governance

ORR tenderIt was a bit puzzling to spot this tender from BDA in newspapers last week. Dated Oct 15, it called for "Improvements to Service Road of Outer Ring Road from Marathalli underpass to Central Silk Board junction (missing bits)". At least on the tenderwizard site (click for all recent BDA tenders), there is no other older tender calling for improvements to these service roads. The puzzling part however is this. Service Road improvement work is already in full swing! In fact, I have been noticing digging work for over a month now.

Save these trees - road widening?

Infrastructure

BBMP/BWSSB are at it again. I am surprised at the ease with which they go about cutting the trees.

This time it is the stretch of road between BDA junction and Cavery Theater junction (New Airport Road). Some one really very creative is at work here - they are finding new innovative ways to cut down trees and this time BWSSB has chipped in to help them.

In this particular case - BWSSB dug deep trenches just next to the trees (they are laying a pipe line). With in days most of the trees tilted dangerously towards the trench. A couple of days latter all these trees were cut down - may be citing treat to life and property. Surprise surprise, a few days latter, the foot paths are decreased and work is on to increase the width of the road - all this natak for a few extra feet of road (for a road which is already wide enough). Most of these tress were atleast 50-60 years old.

Mysore Road Flyover - Maintenace gone all wrong

Creating new infrastructure generally takes the spotlight. Maintaining it is not, but it is as important. When properly cared for, things live long and strong.

Make Roads / footpaths and then dig them away to glory

Earlier this year in August Pune saw some frantic road digging in the name of erecting Ganesh Pandals. This video from Ranjit Gadgil gives a taster

NICE PRR on!
