BTRAC road divider menace

TrafficPedestrian Infrastructure

Image003Its slowly taking over all roads in Bangalore and this needs to be stopped immediately. In the name of BTRAC they are laying these road dividers which I am sure in not in any of the road design books.

Exciting - Karnataka's own NHDP !!

Infrastructure

KSHIPI am a bit surprised that mainstream media is yet to show serious interest in a PPP proposal to develop 66000 kms of roads in Karnataka. I first heard about this mega plan about two months ago, and finally, yesterday, half page ads appeared in newspapers with more details. Sounds exciting isn't it, promise of connectivity, and its about the whole state, not just Bengaluru. Call it Karnataka's own NHDP of sorts. Plan is to modernize roads, not build greenfield roadways. Highlights, here they are:

Peripheral Ring Road needed immediately

Dear Prajayists, I wonder what happened to the Peripheral Ring Road Phase-1 in Bangalore connecting Hosur Road-Old Madras Road-Bellary Road-Tumkur Road. In the month of June 2008 the Govt had sanctioned an amount of Rs. 3000 crores for laying of this road by BDA. Land Acquisition process is over and objections were minimal thanks to the TDR facility offered by the BDA in the Master Plan 2015.

Sankey Road to lose trees

Infrastructure

The Arterial Sankey Road, from Cauvery Theatre Junction to Yeshwantpur Circle Junction is going to be widened and going to lose all the green cover it has. It is going to become a major disaster given that Sankey Tank and surrounding regions cannot withstand such a large amount of vehicular pollution.

A solution for eastbound OMR/ORR lanes

Infrastructure

The mess at Bennigannahalli is a 2 km microcosm of what haphazard (if any) planning can result in- apathy (and sometimes antipathy) to public transportation, lane indiscipline, poor forethought (narrow RUB; non-existent pedestrian infrastructure) and bad design (Cable-stayed bridge) to name a few. However IMO some solutions are not that far away.

BBMP's negligence - example from Saraswathi Nagar

Praja is not an official complaints authority, but from time to time, we get complaint emails meant for BBMP, BMTC or Traffic Police. It indicates that many citizens don't know where exactly to complain. Regardless, here is a recent email that highlights how even small public work carried out in the city is often not done to perfection. Lack of clean up post-work is so very common.

How Wide is Wide?

Infrastructure

Nomatter however the road is wide, there is always traffic jams. Still BBMP seems to have not analyzed the problem and expanding the roads by cutting trees and reducing pavements has become its endless project. Today morning I saw trees on the Maharani's College Road while getting down the Anand Rao circle which were 'alive' from 100s of years being cut to widen further. Already the road is 1 way and it is a 4 lane road. Why to loose our greenery unnecessarily. Also the pavements were narrowed still further. We all know, how matter the road is wide, still traffic will not reduce. Length of the jam decreases and width increases. We have seen the examples of Bangkok, as well as we have seen the roads of California. Its all so wide still there are lots of delays in traffic. Why to loose our precious trees which are seniors in terms of age for a foolish act of road widening which we all know is not going to give us any solution. Loosing the tree for a Metro Rail / Mono Rail is OK since it is minimal as well as it is definitely give us a solution. Still, alternative routes should be taken wherever possible to avoid tree cutting such as the case in Nanda Road.

Sanjaynagar Road Widening

I understand from the Janaspanda programme organized at RT Nagar by Deccan Herald that from january road widening work of Sanjaynagar will be taken up. Want to know whether there is any scope to widen the and road. Which road will be widened. Regards S Venkatesh

More trees to be axed

Unashamedly they go on, road after road, for sake of wider roads trees are being axed

ASJ

lighting on KRPURAM to ITPL road

I was sending E-mails to the Commissioner BDA about the non-functioning of the street lights installed at the meridian of the road under subject. I am pursuing this for the last a month or two. I got good respense but stretch of road from Singayyanapalya to Hoodi (beyond that I have not gone) is not working now.
