White topping - projected panacea?

Call it election frenzy or a plan being put in place to 'address' major public woe of having a city with bad roads, the govt is in a frenzy to white top major roads in the city.

footpath works - bbmp's perpetual money spinner

The below picture is of the road works which have started this week on MG road. As can be seen, the exisiting concrete blocks have been removed an neatly piled up on the road..this will most probably be recycled on the same footpath eventually in the coming days.

solving silkboard conundrum

Silkboard junction has been identified as one of the worst traffic prone junctions in the whole of India!!

So what does the govt do to handle it..they come up with an humungous plan to 'de-clutter' the junction with a maze of flyovers..

No Trees for city streets??

Ranganath Swamy, Assistant Conservator of Forests, BBMP Forest Cell, said the existing roads were being constantly used and re-used for infrastructure projects, making trees vulnerable in the city. As a result, saplings can be planted only in “closed spaces” like educational institutions, fenced government premises and clubs.

BBMP road history - site working

BBMP seems to have made a  silent move after the initial hype about the road history being available of all roads in Bangalore which was announced few months ago..a google search leads to the below site which gives the information:

http://218.248.45.164:808...

Use IE to open it (needs silverlight), chrome needs some tweaks to make it work.

TenderSURE - why secretive?

Yes, its beyond doubt that TenderSURE is one of the best things to happen to Bengaluru..howver what is disconcerting is the veil of secrecy or the lack of information around it..the JUSP site mentions the following:

Metro and TenderSURE

It was in news recently that the road laid by BMRCL around cubbon road after it opened is not of good quality and BBMP was planning to discuss the same with BMRC. This is being done because it is stipulated that relaying roads worked on by metro is to be done by BMRCL itself..

Sorry plight of two-wheeler riders

According to the Road Accident Report (2014) published by the road transport and highways ministry , while 4,726 lives were lost in crashes due to humps, 6,672 people died in accidents caused due to potholes and speed breakers.

TenderSURE on Residency Road

TenderSURE is being discussed with some discontent these days because it has hit the road users community (dominated by motorvehicle users) hard. However its commendable that they continue with their work.

TenderSURE and the future!

@vmenon made a pertinent obervation about TenderSURE works happening around town here
