Fuel Subsidies, Road user fee - Common sense prevails, At Last

EnforcementTraffic

Some positive developments - long overdue, though not very comforting for the car-dependent public in bangalore. Following are excerpts from an on-line headline news portal :

Traffic Advisory Committee

Enforcement

The new Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Dr Saleem, IPS, has instituted a Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC), comprising traffic 'experts' from across the city, which incidentally includes three PRAJA members - Pranav, Sathya, and myself - to interact with the traffic police at the highest level on a monthly basis, with a view to finding solutions for the city&

Drunk drivers of Bengaluru = 4 Crore worth black money?

EnforcementTraffic

Now that I have had 10 second hand reports on this, its time to do some math on the black money generated by drunken drivers of Bangalore. I am yet to experience this first hand (hope never to), those who have, say that they pay anywhere from Rs 1500 - 2500 in all after they get booked for drunken driving.

BusPublic Transport

Two videos, one from the NYC, US, and another Bangkok, Thailand. East or West, keeping Bus lanes clear isn't that easy. How will we do it in Bangalore? Bus mounted Cameras to take snapshots of moving vehicles ahead, and fine random 10 every day from the pictures taken? Or simple 'heavy fine' warning to induce fear?

About using Transgenders in Traffic Control Program

Governance

Today while stopping at a signal in Veerasandra Cross/ Hosur Road Junction a transgender approached me for her(his) due.  Usually I wont turn up. Today I wanted to talk to him(her). So I offered Rs.10 as a talking fee :). I casually asked if he(she) would interested to help traffic control. The answer was positive but she(he) was hopeless that anyone would co-operate by seeing them.

Wouldn't PRAJA have been a better option for BTP?

EnforcementTraffic

The Facebook page of the traffic police, set up two months ago, is a much-needed forum for Bangaloreans to bring the violator in uniform to book. More than 3,000 have already joined the page to share information and make evidence public. Many others are adding their comments.

(Auto)mobile hotels

Urban Development

While we are all ok with such shops, as they provide quick solutions to auto/cab/bus drivers I am just wondering

a) Are valid license holders to do the business?

b) Is their vehicle authorized to use for such purposes (which shows white number plate)?

c) Does the RTO rules permit usage of private vehicles for business use?

d) Do the business owner pay taxes?

Hat mounted camera - gadget for Traffic Police

EnforcementTraffic

Bangalore Traffic Police loves technology, and for good reason, because tech helps them 1) reduce corruption and 2) get more enforcement done from their small troop of 2000 cops. Here is another tech solution for them to take their camera based enforcement to the extreme.
