Three new flyovers will decongest Sarjapura Road

Infrastructure

Hope this will bring down some traffic problem on ORR.

Commuting on Sarjapura Road is set to become a smooth affair as three flyovers are ready to be inaugurated on the thoroughfare anytime next week. The first flyover is located at Iblur Junction, while the second flyover is at Agara. The third flyover is an extension of the Agara flyover,

Iblur flyover will be a signal-free stretch and it will make the movement of vehicles to Silk Board Junction on Sarjapur Road faster.

Vehicles can now take the main road instead of taking service roads and cross roads and this will also ease the traffic movement towards Koramangala, Sarjapura Road, Marathahalli and Outer Ring Road.

Bangalore Development Authority officials said that there would be some bus lanes and grade-level roads dedicated to the Iblur flyover as it was a part of three-flyover interlink.

Benniganahalli RUB progress!

Infrastructure

 Hi,

Would anyone know, why the work at Benniganahalli RUB (Road under bridge) widening has almost stopped?

After the magic boxes have put under the railway line (one each on the either side of the existing Old Madras Road, it took about a month to level the surfaces there, and nothing is being done for the last month or so to widen the existing road and include the new Magic boxes and covert the stretch to 6-lanes! Though this will not help the chaos at the junction of Cable-stay bridge and flyover (with so many bus having stops there), this would definitely bring some relief.

For the past 2 / 3 weeks, the magic boxes are now serving as parking space for trucks, pani-puri push cards running good business there too..

Does anyone know, what is the bottleneck there? Any thing we citizens can do to push to complete this long pending work?

Regards...Surya

Kadugodi flyover - almost ready

Infrastructure

Since good number of members have sent petitions, DPAR complaints, RTIs and what not to chase status of this bridge, it feels good to see the flyover nearing completion.

Rethinking road-widening - Tunnels?

Infrastructure

One of the core infrastructural issues we are facing is an inability of our arterial roads and highways to provide rapid cross-town access. Globally, city and highway planners recognize and create different infrastructure for highways and city roads. See Dr. Joglekar’s posts here for a succinct description of this problem plaguing most Indian cities. A simple schematic (full size image here)and an inventory of city highways reveals the problem.

Bangalore's Big Dig Dream?

Infrastructure

This DH Report on 10/May notes: "The State government has long-term plans to build tunnel roads in the City to ease traffic congestion" said ..... Minister R Ashok on Monday.

Consider this against the effort spent reducing the length of Namma Metro Under Ground alignment.

Binny Mills to KG Bus Stand is one such tunnel road being discussed. Fortunately, "the proposals are in preliminary stage and nothing concrete has emerged so far, he said".

BTW, Namma metro's west bound UG alignment is not too far away!

HSR Flyover - overhead power lines a problem?

Infrastructure

While the work at a flyover on Outer Ring Road near HSR Layout is in full swing, I don't see anything that indicates that the overhead power transmission lines will be raised to accomodate the new flyover. Took some pictures ...

... and I hope that either the transmission lines are at a safe height above, or BDA has planned to adjust their height. As we know, details like these lead to delay in these flyover projects.

Work is on, June 2010 new date

Infrastructure

Work is on, many have confirmed. June 2010 is being comunicated as the planned end date for remaining work. Residents or commuters of the area should post pictures here to keep tab on the work, so that all get to know if June 2010 date is realistic.

Given all the new information, there is no need for planning a protest right now, let us wait till end of May. Sounds good?

Protest cum work review at the bridge work-site?

Infrastructure

Okay, so we have had 3-4 comments expressing interest to participate in a protest sort of event near the work site. If 15-20 people can commit to attendance, let us fix a date and do it.
