It is a good news about the approval of Bangalore Suburban Services known as Namma Railu in our Praja Discussions.

Metro and CRS instead of competing each other as discussed, how could we make it complementary to each other? This needs proper integration of Metro Stations with SWR Stations wherever Possible giving a commuter seamless travel.

Some of the stations where integration could be done and the challenges:

1. SBC - Integrated well with East - West Line of Phase 1. But somehow located far off from the platforms making commuter to walk a lot along with luggage.

2. Byappanahalli - Metro and SWR stations are next to each other - Still no interconnectivity.

3. Yeshwantpur - This is the only station where there is good integration other than SBC.

4. Nayandahalli - Metro Station and SWR station is too far off and no path.Either Nayandahalli station has to shift further North close to Outer Ring Road giving integration with city buses, Metro and the Proposed Light Rail on ORR / Phase 3 Metro Speculated.

On the other hand, integration could be given between Jnanabharathi Station with University Metro Station.

5. Whitefield Station in Phase 2 - If someone could give light on this Metro station's location and how well it is going to get integrated, it would help in integrating them.

6. Phase 2 Electronic City Line - This ends at Bommasandra Industrial area. If this could be further extended to integrate with Heelalige Railway Station, it would act as another connecting bridge.

I will try to put a map. If someone could put that, it would be great.

Metro-CRS Interchanges

With ph-1 & 2 of metro, suburban rail may eventually have good inter-change facilities at all of the flwg locations:

1) SBC
2) Baiyappanahalli
3) Yeswantapur
4) Cantonment
5) KR Puram
6) Whitefield

On BMRC's map, the proposed metro station at whitefield is shown on whitefield rd very close to the existing railway station.

Other places where integration can be planned :

7) At least at one location from out of Deepanjalinagar, Nayandahalli or Gnanabharati (along Mysore rd).
8) On Nagawara main rd (proposed CRS stn) - Arabic college (metro stn).

Apart from above, with ph-3, there may be many more locations:

9)  Yelahanka
10) Hebbal
11) Palace rd
12) Carmelaram - Sarjapur rd
13) Varthur Rd (Marathalli bridge)
14) Jalahalli /ASC
15) Lottegollahalli
16) RMV Extn (D Rajagopal Rd)
17) Channasandra or Kasturinagar
18) Benniganahalli
19) Karthik Nagar (ORR)

The existing Heelalige railway stn is more than 1 km from Hosur rd & it is unlikely that metro line will be extended beyond Bommasandra even in ph-3 (perhaps ph-4!).
