Atal Sarige buses

BusPublic Transport

Last week  I waited at Kanakapura road for a bus to Banashankari. There came a AS1(Atal sarige 1) and I boarded it. This bus had some advantages:

1. The fare charged between Jaraganahalli and Banashankari, a distance of about 2 1/2 kms was just Rs.2/- in a situation where all other buses charge Rs.4/-

Utilizing existing trains

Commuter RailPublic Transport

Praja.in members travelled by train and proved that the trains can be cheaper and faster also. Sop why not we consider the existing options and link with BMTC buses to the IT sector areas in the city? Just a list of them: * The stations which are very well connected with BMTC buses are Krishnarajapuram,Carmelram and whitefield stations. The are closer to the IT sectors also.

1. Krishnarajapuram Junction: It has the bus stop attached to it on the outer ring road side. almost all trains bound south stop at this station. BMTC buses connect well to:

a) ITPL: 304,306,319,600 series buses

b)Mahadevapura: 500A,500C,500D,500N,500L,501,501B,502A,C-1,BIAS-8,BIAS-8A

c)Bellandur: Same as Mahadevapira except 502A

Trains from Bangalore city:

Lalbagh Express at 6:30AM Marikuppam passenger at 7AM Chennai Express at 8AM Chennai Passenger at 9:20 Bangarpet passenger at 10 Good parking facility available at city station/cantt station.

Proposal to increase fares

BusPublic Transport

Following the recent increase in fuel prices,BMTC is planning to increase the fares. The same was published in the bangalore mirror newspaper of yesterday. Owing to BBMP elections and results the bus fares will be mostly increased once the poll results come out.

In the traffic affected bangalore city the only mode of PT available is BMTC. BMTC has just started propoganding its services and conducting events like bus days. But if fares are increased at present the people travelling by buses will definitely reduce.

C&AG in its recently conducted audit has revealed that operational costs are quite high which have resulted in loss of revenue to BMTC though slight margin in revenue was revealed. Instead of increasing fares it would be better if they can analyse the reasons for high costs and cut down the same successfully.

If BMTC and other authorities seriously plan to decongest th city then this fare increase must not be accepted. Proper rationalization, allocation and running of buses will help in reduce the costs to some extent. The reasons for high increase in costs have already been discussed in our forum under the C&AG audit blog.
