BMTC branded auto service!

Creating a separate post about the upcoming BMTC branded auto service or similar.

This was sort of announced about a month ago (See mention of first mile connection in this Hindu article), but we thought this was only for BIAL services. Mr Tripathy said this should be in papers in a day or two, and it seemed this wont be a BIAL only thing. Here is a quick summary of what he mentioned:

  • about 4500-5000 autos to be signed up
  • with GPS and some more gadgetry
  • single point to point ticketing (bus to auto)
  • autos tied to a TTMC,
  • will be monitored and incentivized to do short distance trips from bus stand to nearby houses/businesses

Long time members here will remember this old post from Tarle (Bangalore Autor Transit Authority). We have talked about this type of thing when discussing last mile connectivity. So let us watch this development with interest.

With another thread  discussing the pros/cons of autos I was wondering what happened to this initiative.
