Have posted this suggestion to BTP via their website

--------------------------

Kindly publish the traffic arrangement well in advance for upcoming Meenakshi Mall near Meenakshi Temple B'ghatta road. I am expecting huge traffic congestion there,  once the mall opens. This is the right time you can plan well and avoid public inconvience. I have posted this suggestion in www.praja.in too. So there you can see some more discussion in this regard. You can also post response there.

Thanks in advance.

--------------------------

Any discussion on this would be welcome. Exact Location we are talking about is at 12.876488321698062, 77.59514808654785. You can see BGS school, Hinduja Lake Front all nearby. Hence the concern.

Ideally before giving the permission to build the mall, one has to make sure about its impact on traffic. Or is it otherwise? Ribbon development is an interesting phenomenon discussed in Praja earlier. Hope fully BDA has upright competent town planners.

Who is giving permission?

This time it would be ideal to have an RTI filled, as how/when/who/on what guidelines gave permission?

But we have to do some homework before going to RTI. Everyone knows there are "grey" hands behind every mall, apartment buildings.

Meenakshi Mall

Meenakshi mall may not create the sort of mess that Mantri Square mall or the Mantri (Bangalore Central - JP Nagar) created.

Reasons: Meenakshi Mall has two fairly wide side-roads which can serve as the entry and exit points. (these two roads don't lead anywhere and has very less traffic).

The mall traffic need not directly come into the BG road while exiting. See attached figure. Of course all the current gaps in median should be closed, except two as marked in green circle, so that there is no haphazard traffic.

One definite long term action needed is a signal where the Kammanahalli road and BG road junction (marked as red circle).

Slightly off topic, with Gopalan mall (and cinemas) and Inox (at Central, JP Nagar) opened up, i don't think Meenakshi Mall has a great chance of success, speaking business-wise.

As expected,chaos started

As expected and blogged here, at evening times, specially weekends, traffic congestion has started. I see cops/guards struggling in front of mall. I know this blog just kind of documentation. I never got any response of BTP on this issue. I will try to post a pic when I get there again.

Its the people to blame or the Meenakshi mall ?

I am not sure whether its the people to blame to park outside the mall to save the parking fees or the mall itself as it doesn't have the sufficient space to park?

In both of the situations - solution is easy, on the weekends evening, peak-shop-hour, traffic cops should not let people park there or issue tickets or make good use of those locks BTP had purchased a long back. These will solve both the problems -

(1) If the parking is enough but people want to save parking fees, they will start to park inside or atleast in parking zones, because of fear or ticket.

(2) If the mall doesn't have enough space for parking, then if people are aware of not finding the space there on weekend peak-shop hours, then they will refrain from going there, thereby making the mall-owners think about proper infrastructure and planning before coming up in such busy roads.

wait for sometime..

As it happened with Mantri..guess we need to wait it out as these malls loose the hype..and some of the visitors find out that the local veggie store has more fresh stuff than the mall and for weekends its better doing something else(like driving down futher to Bannerghatta NP) than getting stuck in the mall parking..

btw the 4 lane bannerghatta road is the main bottleneck..with no turning lanes or signals in place..cops are busy booking ppl parking on street there than managing the traffic at the main road!

Cops should just lock the car tyres

up

In my opinion, 21-2 cops should just lock the tyres whichever vehicle is parked on the road, and other designated cops should concentrate on managing the traffic there.

Locking will cause people to go to police station and pay fine and then get the vehicle unlocked, which will make them learn not to park again at the same place.

Just fining might not solve the purpose, as people might bribe or just go away for paying no-parking fees. If they have some physical and mental pain seeing their car locked, running to police station to get it unlocked, will help them learn not to do the same violations again.

Road widening already on the way..

up

@srinidhi Yes, its on its way...

After Sampige Road in Malleswaram, it is now the turn of Bannerghatta Road: a stretch of 7.5 km will be widened. Four major hospitals, the premier IIM-B and many commercial units will have to give up a portion of their premises for the project.

Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology (3.3 metres), Sagar Hospital (2 metres) , Fortis (5.7 metres) and Apollo hospital (7 metres) will lose the front portion of their properties as per the markings made by BBMP on these buildings.

Probably Meenakshi Mall too ..

basics first

Traffic police should install no parking board first, which currently is not there. That should be 200ft from that junction. Only then you can lock car wheels etc.

Yes right, there has to be a no-parking board first

I have also posted the same suggestions on the comments on facebook page about this issue as well mentioned in this post by Bheema.

Also, I referred this blog-post in one of my comment on FB page about the page, so that BTP or Mr. Sood can also have a look at our page in case they wish to for some constructive suggestions.

Additionally, I have commented there to install no-parking board first if not there.

Lets see, how far it goes and how pro-actively and properly they solve this problem of traffic congestion @Meenakshi mall.
